Many players accidently queue for 4v4 BG

It helps the queue go faster but it's not really a good thing because I see lots of players with 18k health and they said they meant to queue for 8v8. So I'm not sure if there's a bug or the UI dropdown is defaulting to 4v4 or what. But something needs to change because players shouldn't be accidently queueing into a competitive 4v4, especially when they bring casual builds.

if i recall when i tried to do some BGs last night, the queue selection does default to solo 4v4 competitive

i had to change it to solo 8v8 to join that queue

Same. It defaults to 4x4 competitive. And even if you change it to 8x8, it sometimes changes back after timing out 6 times in the lobby.

At least I got an achievement out of losing really badly.

The 4v4 is also the most volatile, where 1 weak player and your team suddenly has no chance, and while a lopsided 8v8 is bad, a lopsided 4v4 is even more brutal for the losing team. Ironically the 8v8 solo has felt a lot more competitive, the power levels of each team average out better with more players, fewer matches are decided on group comp.

The last 4 matches I played in 4v4 group queue my wife and I got grouped with at least one player with 18-21k hp.

I always politely ask if they're using HP food and have a jewels of misrule rdy to offer them. Most just ignore me. Today, the player responded that they were wearing PvE gear.

"Cool. This is ranked PvP. Why did you queue for a competitive mode with PvE gear on?"

"Oh, I didn't realize this was ranked"

    So anyway, we lost :)

100% the casual option should be the first on the drop down. The average player is going to hit the battlegrounds tab and click queue automatically, it makes sense to have 8v8s in that spot.

People should just learn to read. It’s a very basic action and basic human function. Let people play the game and learn from their mistakes and learn what it takes to succeed in PVP. We shouldn’t have to babysit other players.

No matter game mode someone queues for, there should be some expectation that you’re built to help a teammate when battles get intense. There’s always going to be player or aspect that you’ll have to carry for someone else as their teammate.

I got someone on my team with 17k hp and pale order equipped queued into my 4 v 4 match. Very fun gameplay :D

Not sure if they were trolling, or didn't read "competitive"

The ultra casual players who don't really think about their builds, or what PvP mode they're clicking on, shouldn't be funneled into the most competitive queue. Really wish they had a "below X cp" queue listed first.

Eso does a notoriously poor job of teaching newer players the things they actually need to know.

Easy overland gives them the impression that they're better than they actually are.

The pvp tutorial in cyro offers nothing about how to build for pvp.

I wouldn't assume someone is trolling - a player who has done overland and maybe normal base game dungeons would have no way of knowing that 17k health is inappropriate for a battleground.

Obviously everyone should be perfect and read everything fully and seek out all information on their own, but this isn't realistic... and it would probably make for a better experience for all parties if the default selection was the more casual bg mode.

That’s what cyrodiil is for, ultra casuals learn to PvP there. The training wheels gotta come off at some point. Also learn to read is not much to ask.

Thread went from Battleground Mode placement in the menu to "Hate on casual players" real quick.

Cyro teaches them how to stand on the wall and never engage an opponent. Leaving the zerg in Cyro is far more dangerous than any BG. There's always gonna be players who don't wanna ever take the training wheels off, why should competitive 4v4 players be punished for some rando who doesn't wanna even read, let alone learn to play?
