Oakfather's Retribution...amazing? crap? ok?

Hello,

I just want some opinions on Oakfather's Retribution. Some people I talk to swear by it flagging it's a very good set, a good alternative to procs. As i'm not finding any great joy using procs on my DK (goodbye Pyrebrand) and Plar I want to look for alternatives. What do you think about Oakfather?

Glad you asked this, been wondering it too.

Front barred might be pretty wonderful on my Templar, but I haven't really heard many people touting it after the initial PTS "Oh, this is gonna be so strong!" conversation.

I do know the Maces sell for a boatload whenever I get them as Cyrodiil rewards, so that's probably telling?

It’s good for penetration. What’s nice about it I think is you can run it with any weapon type, like axes or swords, even daggers. But most people just use it with maces since you’ll easily have 15k+ penetration just for looking at someone.

I used it for a bit on a couple classes and was not impressed.

However, I run a few Oakensoul setups and have run into a few players running Oakfather and they absolutely shred me with their damage. So I'm thinking it's basically only good against Oakensoul users, which sucks because Oakensoul is already well below meta builds in PvP.

My quick math says it's about the same as something like Spriggan/Spinner against a minmax solo, and only above rate against comp groups, so it's okay and usable but nothing special. Just run Rallying Cry lol.

You’re better off using other sets. Keep in mind that offensive penetration bonuses do not increase your healing, so it’s usually best to just use sources of Major/Minor Breach and whatever other unavoidable penetration bonuses you get. It is great against Oakensoul users but that’s not enough reason to use it imo.

With all of that said, if you like it, you can definitely make it work. It’s just another one of the hundreds of pure boring stats buff sets.

So this is basically "one shot" set if you are fighting Oakensoul user or Werewolf... or both since WWs (if there are any left) tend to use Oakensoul.

Probably the best penetration set in the game (except maybe for Balorgh).

Against most decent players youre going to get around 4-5k pen most of the time and a bit of weapon damage.
That plus the very good 2-4 piece bonus usually makes it better than sets like Shattered Fate, Spriggan or Stuhns.

So definitely worth looking at if you want more pen for your build, otherwise youre probably better off with something else.

Templar use Torc mythical item. It greatly helps Templar. As for other classes, use this with a heavy or medium proc set and you will kill many players easily.

This is true. I run this set combined with Tarnished together with no monster set. It really shines when using against someone that is wearing Oakensoul as Tarnished damage increases Weapon and Spell Damage. I "think" it also counts when you are using siege weapons against those using oakensoul as people drop like flies more when I'm using this combination versus when i am not. When they are not using Oakensoul it's pretty much useless except for the base buffs.
