Puncturing Sweep

At this point it's pretty silly that only the stam morph (jabs) gives major sorc/brut for templar. No other class is in that situation for their class skill sourced major spell and weapon damage buff.

Power Extraction vs Sap Essence is a better version of the same choice: both give major sorc/brut, a core buff, then one costs mag and adds healing (without reducing the aoe damage by a hefty chunk like puncturing sweep, but that's a different issue) while the other gives a useful but not absolutely mandatory minor buff and minor debuff.

Why is templar design still living like it's 2015?

Major buffs should be applied at base

Yeah they have big issues building fantasy archetypes outside of nimble mages/asssassins on steroids.

Templar has been lacking, especially in pvp so I agree, both morphs should give you the major brutality/sorcery. Can give the stamina morph the old snare back that was nerfed in update 35, and something small like minor berserk.

I just wish backlash was a stronger ability, daedric prey/haunting curse feels like it does the same thing but better.

The class felt way smoother and more cohesive back when I played it in 2015, so I wouldn’t insult it that way

It was nice when I stabbed stuff with a spear made of light instead of a translucent vampire staff…

    This…

And increase the timer to 20 seconds… having major brutality/sorcery for 10 seconds is not a big deal in pve as I apply damage overtime’s jab jab till 40% than start popping potions and beaming till it’s dead…

In pvp the 10 seconds timer is no use on my back bar when I’m getting pressured (when I need it the most to boost my heals), I find my self having to pop potion on cool down which in my opinion defeats the purpose

    What they should do:

    - Bring pre U35 jabs back(especially the animation) / add some unique buff to the templar so its viable in organized groups outside of maybe the healer role (even other classes do that better atm)
    - work on those passives .... i mean just take a look at them
    - in general templar skills give buffs that got shifted to some abilitys and some sets so in general they are easily replaced. Update the whole templar kit. ( maybe i should not ask for this knowing ZoS)

    Insightful post.

This is especially the case because Jabs can only be applied in melee range, which entails risk. If you're desperately trying to survive by running away, there are 2 problems:
    1. you were already close to your targets
    2. you're trying to run / heal / re-buff, which leaves no time to Jabs the people trying to kill you

So, my synthesized recommendations based on the posts in this thread:
    1. add Major Brutality & Sorcery to the base ability
    2. extend the duration of the Major buffs to 20 seconds, to put it on par with ranged abilities that apply those buffs

    you are all wrong.

It should give major Spell damage and weapon damage buff on EITHER BAR, WHEN SLOTTED. PERIOD.

And then think out something else for other bonuses and morphs.

You know why jabs feel like junk?
I'll tell you why, it's because with u35 they added a 0.5 second internal cooldown on gaining burning light stacks, before this change you could jab into a group of 4 mobs and get a proc on every single hit of jabs which made it very capable Vs trash groups, and in PvP the fact that you could proc it in one cast meant that you could actually put pressure on other players via hitting harder than a wet noodle.

Zos removes cooldown on burning light and jabs/sweeps comes back to feeling good to use, then, and only then we can see about trying to get them to tinker with how the morphs work.

But buring light before can proc few times in one jab cast. We have 20% chance on it.

That's not how burning light works.

When you deal damage you generate a stack of Burning Light for 3 seconds. After reaching 4 stacks, you deal 898 Magic Damage to your target. This effect can stack once every half second.

Burning light was changed from a 25% chance to proc to ramping to 4 stacks then detonating in update 27, FOUR YEARS AGO, then update 35 further nerfed it with the 500ms cd on generating stacks.

Back to sweep/jabs, I'd definitely agree on making the sorc/brut passive-while-slotted or increasing the duration, but since zos limited all the scribing sources of major sorcery/brutality and Savagery/prophecy to 10 seconds, they'll probably dig their heels in on adding duration to the buff from jabs and sweep.

It's one of those 'standardization' things that only actually applies to Templar design and gets ignored for the other 6 classes.

When they added major sorcery and brutality to necromancer's skeletal mage (and morphs, ofc) they still made it last 20 seconds but nah templar gets to be the bad kind of special with a shorter buff than everyone else.

Same. And I think the majority of the playerbase would be. ZoS could do with scoring the points here, really.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

The situation is not at all the same between Necro and Templar. Templar has it on a spammable whereas Mage is not a spammable.

The point of unity between Templars and Necros is that the buff should be there for slotting on either bar rather than it being tied to skill activation. These two underdog classes deserve at least that measure of quality of life vs. the more favored classes: DK, NB, and Sorc.
