I shall investigate the murdered person's bedroom and I found a cup and a letter but then I don't know where to go next. I have run thru the room but cannot find anything more.

✭Yeah, I found it finally.
It is really difficult.
I guess you have to hit a very specific point with the crosshair.
What really does not help are the questmarkers that have really gone wild on that quest. It is already a challenge to find the location one has to go to next when inside the mansion. ✭✭✭✭✭Yeah. It's really annoying that this is a frequent problem with quest markers in this game.1
