I Can't Take It Anymore!

Horace-Wimp
As per title I simply can't take it anymore. "What," you ask? The near constant tumble and roll on my characters. I have asked repeatedly ingame and searched online and cannot find a way to disable the tumble and roll feature that my characters do almost constantly when I play (I play on PC via Steam should you be wondering. I am also only a basic free player with access to only the base game and do not have nor have ever had ESO+.)

I have been told that tumble and roll can be disabled in Settings but I'll be [CENSORED] if I can find it. One website says it cannot be disabled while another says it can but I need to alter two game files to do it WARNING me that not only might altering them damage the game but also get me banned? Whatever. just want to PERMANENTLY disable the tumble and roll feature so that my characters stop randomly tumbling and rolling off cliffs, ledges, platforms and bridges where I wind up dying needlessly. I also want tumble and roll disabled so that my abilities are not interrupted in fights when I try to move out of fire and other snot that makes the fight more dangerous.

So,...how do I PERMANENTLY disable the tumble and roll feature on ALL of my characters?

I I have other questions but they can wait until I find out how to PERMANENTLY disable tumble and roll on ALL my characters.

Thank you.

    Do you mean dodge roll?

Settings > controls > rebind dodge roll

Do you play with a gamepad? If no, ignore. If yes...

If your characters are doing it spontaneously, it could be a problem with the way the gamepad input is being mapped. In Steam, try turning off steam input mapping.

    1. Go to Steam (upper left)->Settings->Controller
    2. Turn off "Enable Steam Input for XBox Controllers".

This will not disable your controller in Steam games. It will just stop Steam from doing input mapping.

If you're talking about Dodge Roll.... Assuming PC:

Log in on your main. Open the CONTROLS menu. In the first set of keybinds, under First Bind, find the Roll Dodge line. Remove whatever setting is bound to that (for me it's LT+A), by clicking on it, and selecting Unbind. The dialog will exit back to the main Controls menu. ESC to exit back to gameplay.

The individual is referring to how our characters can enter a rolling animation after falling off of a tiny ledge, cliff, etc. It forces us to engage in an animation which interrupts all other actions for about 0.5 seconds, so you can’t “actually” roll dodge, can’t cast abilities, currently channeled casts are interrupted, etc. It is frustrating but particularly can be deadly in PvP if it happens at the wrong time.

There is a way to avoid this, but not to disable it.
If you fall off of a ledge, you have two choices.

The first will be to continue pressing forward which will cause you to roll once you hit the ground. This is what you want to avoid.

The second will be to stop pressing whichever button causes you to move forward. If you are not moving forward but are rather “standing still” the moment you contact the ground, you will not roll. I stead, your character will slam on the ground and set their palm on the floor to support themselves. You can cast abilities and maintain channeled casts during this.

Practice ending your forward movement at the last moment of your fall. Eventually you’ll get used to that movement and won’t find yourself tumbling around as often!

Considering it's near constant and random for you, perhaps "Double Tap to Dodge" is turned on? You can find that setting in Settings -> Gameplay.

The only time I have this issue is when the W button on my keyboard is failing and it's time to replace some of the switches in my keyboard. I'd imagine the same could happen with a worn out controller if using a controller.

If you are accidentally dodge rolling through movement, you probably have double tap to dodge set on, and also probably have the delay (Double Tap speed) set low. You can turn this off entirely, or change the speed setting to see if that helps.

If you do disable it entirely I would suggest you go to the controls->key rebinds and bind dodge roll to a specific key, because there are times when you need to dodge roll.

This is the answer. Actually had this happen to me. The speed was set way to sensitive for me so almost every slight lift in a movement key was causing me to roll.

I could never figure out what I was supposed to double tap, and it doesn't tell us, so I just set a control for it. I didn't have to disable it because nothing I tried made it work anyway.

Sounds like a mouse issue. I've had that problem before when the mouse buttons were faulty. Or whatever you use for movement if not mouse (I use right mouse button for forward walk). Kept suddenly rolling off of ledges or not moving when I wanted to. Replacing the mouse fixed it for me

Keep in mind that there are mechanics in the game that will kill your character if you don't dodge them with a dodge roll. They can't be blocked, and are one shots.

Disabled the "double tap to roll" (settings > gameplay) then bind dodge roll to a separate key (personally I have mind bound to left alt) and problem solved

Mother of all that is Holy! THIS is what I needed. I looked and looked and did not notice this setting. I was going blind looking through the CONTROLS part of settings trying to figure this out. The tumble and roll keybind at the top has always been NOT BOUND but I was still tumbling and rolling to my death EVERY [CENSORED] DAY! Multiple times EACH day. No matter what I did it would happen. Forward, backward, to the left, to the right - nearly 100% of my playtime; if I moved my toon I was tumbling and rolling. Even if I held the key down I would just tumble and roll for no [CENSORED] reason. I have turned this feature off and tested it and I did not tumble and roll once. I hope this nightmare is finally over.

THANK YOU VERY KINDLY FOR SAVING MY SANITY!!! :D

I think it is best to leave the Binding alone and adjust the Double Tap Speed. Dodge Roll is a good thing when you want it. Adjusting the speed so you have to be more deliberate in your actions to make it happen is the best solution.

Also, note your Keyboard Repeat Rate can have an affect on this too.

I can't check it in-game at the moment, but I believe you're supposed to use the movement keys. So you can double tap W to dodge roll forwards, for example.

I thought I'd tried that but I never got it to work. I'm used to using B that I bound it to now anyway but I was always confused by this. Thanks for clarifying!
