Sai Sahan-Varen or Lyris?

Texwa
Texwa
I've got several alts at V1 each time I choose Varen to power the Amulet of Kings because it seems to me he would rather do this than see one of the others suffer. But just wondering if anyone else selects one of the others and does it make any difference?

It doesn't make much of a difference, no. It will give you some different quest dialogues with the remaining characters, though, and also the weapon you get at the end of the quest will change. You will either get Varen's staff, Sai's greatsword, or Lyris' greataxe.

    But that is mainly it.

The item that you get. Basically, the weapon of each respective char that you sacrifice.

    Also, pls put spoilers.

Varen the first time, Lyris every other time because I don't like her and I couldn't care less about Sai's broken heart.

kill lyris, killing varen isnt effective hes old and will die anyways pretty soon imo and so you would waste an opportunity to get rid of *** npc xD

I really kind of wish that we could find pieces of the ritual that Abnur Tharn does throughout the main quest line. Then, at the end, if you've found them all, you could kill him as well, since he is not needed to perform the ritual.

Min/maxers will sacrifice the person who gives them the best weapon, if that's a viable option, personally I've only selected someone other than Veran once, and regretted it even though I'm far from an RPer.

So you'd sacrifice Tharn who was donig his Lord's bidding rather than the arrogant SOB that provided Mannimarco with his opportunity?

I don't see Tharn as evil, he's not a saint but he believed he was doing it for the good of the Empire which has n leadership and was descending into chaos; remember also the other two went along with it perfectly willingly and both saw it as their duty.

As such, Lyris and Sai are as guilty as Tharn, but I still rate Veran the obvious root cause.

What happens btw to some of the DLC when you decide to kill Lyris? Or Sai Sahan?

Nothing. The DLCs handwave the choice and make it irrelevant.

For me picking Varen is the logical choice. How do you explain running into Sai or Lyris down the road in other content or zones? Min/Max players will tell you it's about the reward but how long will you be using it as you level up? Varen's reasoning as to why he's the right choice makes more sense. And Varen you never see again after the story.

I've chosen each of them over time, as I run the main quest on different characters, so I could see how all the story plays out. They're all eager to be the sacrifice, after all.

Most of my characters went through the main story before they started bringing Lyris and Sai back, so there was no continuity problem at the time. Ever since, however, I've been more inclined to choose Varen because of knowing the others will be back (and also really, really, really disliking him as the Prophet). I didn't care much for my choice being made pointless

Mannimarco is close by, writhing in perpetual torture, and he was one of the 5 companions. My elf was heartbroken when the dumb companions refused to go back, get Mannimarco and sacrifice his sorry butt.

Plan B was to have the pompous jerkTharn teach my very accomplished mage how to do the ritual and sacrifice him. No luck on that either.

At that point she was frustrated enough at their inability to think outside the box that she adopted a 'Whatever. . . I'll just flip a coin,' approach. ;)
