[REQUEST] Introduce late class selection for new characters

I have all 20 character slots occupied so I won't benefit from it but I think, considering that no class change token will ever be introduced, following introduction for new characters:

During this introduction the character is led through a story that allows him to test classes. FOR INSTANCE: To this end he gets a sort of magical scroll that temporarily gives access to class skills of a specific class and he can test these skills during a short combat. Then he can select another scroll to test another class.

At the end of the introduction he has to decide for a class.

Players who already know what classes they wanna chose can skip this and go straight to the class selection upon character creation.

Yeah be like the other ES games, let us edit/change class after the tutorial.

Yeah I completely miss the part where somewhat it is explained why my char has that specific class.

Our character, apart from level, is thrown into the world full of dangers without any trace of backstory and how it came that he masters that class but not others.

I sort of knew already what I wanted by having played other TES games, and a lot of other games, but yeah, one thing I really dislike is when games force you to make permanent decisions without really giving you a good idea of what those decisions are.

Class is a big one. I usually play mage, but sometimes mage is the worst class to play (once had a game where I chose mage, and everything was great, until the final boss, who was practically immune to magic. I couldn't defeat it using a mage class).

So, yeah, it would be nice if it were more of a 'here is a basic tutorial, and here are the different classes you are eligible for, try them out and see which one suits you, then choose one'

Back when the game came out it could be useful but today there are so many builds and guides on the net you can check every possible class and role and see what suits you better so you can plan ahead.

I would disagree, because, without previous knowledge of the game, and sometimes even with it, a lot of the builds and guides are practically useless, because they use jargon that you wouldn't necessarily understand without having experienced it in game.

Not to mention, I am one who learns better 'hands' on, and reading it side by side, than just reading something with no practical demostration.

Beyond that, I generally prefer if the game itself (any game) does something than have people rely on user made guides (which are great), because they can become outdated if the game is still being updated, but the person making the guide no longer plays. This can lead to false information being given (accidentally) and so someone going in thinking they might like a class, only to find out the class was changed between the creation of that guide and when that person decided to start the game.

It takes more than one quest to level and morph class skills to be able to determine if you like the class.
In other words, it takes time to learn and check out a class.

What I have in mind is in no way meant to allow players to test the max performance of that class, rather give them an impression what it is like to play as e.g. nightblade vs dragonknight AND it allows giving a decent back story to how one got to have a specific class.

It's probably a coding/financial incentive issue that is holding ZOS back.

Being able to change one's class feels like a missing piece of the quality of life puzzle.

I don't play FFXIV, but I do like the idea of being able to change your class.

The OP's suggestion would help spice up the tutorial and get people to see what they have to look forward to down the line before committing to a decision, so I am all for it.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

It would be cool if making a character you got an option for a class trial like in wow, where you could try out a character at max level and see if you like it, have restrictions on it like they impose, you can play for 2 hours before the character is locked until you buy a level boost.
    FOR THE PACT!!!!!

Which part of the game would the quest be introducing you to, class-wise? Overland, dungeons, trials, solo or group, PvP? Each class then has a choice of roles within those parts of the game.

It's a role-playing game, it's down to the players to make their own back story if that's important to them. There should be an opportunity for that to be added to the character's description for others to read - although in this day and age I'm dare say that would be open to abuse.

The best advice I could give a new player who doesn't want to swot up on the game beforehand - which I agree with as I like to dive into a new game and learn as I go - would be to read the brief descriptions on the character creation screens and then play the character for around 20 levels or so at a steady pace, before deciding whether to pursue that character or try another race/class/build as in any game it's difficult to gain a complete knowledge of all the classes etc with just your first character (although plenty of players do just that which is fine if they accept the limitations involved).
