Browser keeps opening up different ESO links during game

This issue started happening recently, never occurred before. I'm on the Steam client, and sometimes when I interact with anything in the game, eg. a door, an npc, or a menu; my web browser will automatically open up a link from the ESO website in the background. How can I stop this from happening?

Disable every app that make use of Overlay that might be working in background.

Steam have overlay that can be enabled/disabled from Settings and your video card might also have an app like Nvidia App (which can be used to show in game FPS and record gameplay) or AMDs version of the same kind of app. Don't forget Discord if you use that app as it can also have an overlay if you use it to show who is talking or using it while playing to chat with people.

If use any add on try to disable all add on.

I would suggest to use "Addon Selector" as you can disable all addon with one key and enable all addon again with another key (it will only enable addon that was active which make it easier to systematically go through which addon that can cause your issue that will open your web browser). This addon also make it possible to save a collection of addon as a package (read description on web for this addon).

Make sure which display mode your ESO client are running by checking graphical settings (same place you can pick between Windows Borderless or resolution for your display).

As suggested in the post above, you should try disabling overlays and add-ons. If these changes do not help please let us know.

This is happening to me as well. Not really sure what overlays or add-ons I may have that would be doing this unless it is Xbox Game Bar ? It will take me to the ESO forum, the ESO website lol .. it is specific to ESO.

I also have other gamepad issues after this patch but do not want to go off topic from the OP's bug that I share.

Disabling the Xbox Game Bar would be one of the overlays to disable and see if it helps with this issue. If you need help with removing add-ons, please see our help articles below.

For the moment this is no longer affecting me, however I will continue to monitor the situation. I do see however it is affecting the people in the following post:

Its your controller interacting with the ESO launcher while you are in game. ESO is not locking the controller to its specific game instance like normal so when you press A/X on your controller...you are pressing it in two places at the same time, the ESO game instance and the ESO launcher instance. Its only happening with ESO related windows as I cant get it so the controller interacts with another window while in ESO, just the launcher.

Just happened to me again too today. What was weird is that when i was going through the settings menu on my controller I found that changing the settings was pressing the "Page Down" key for some reason while also interacting with the ESO launcher in the background.

One thing i just realized when looking at the launcher was that it was running a "Beta" version of the launcher. I had never selected it to do so, it was just the Beta version by default for me when I went to install it recently. Reverted back to default, may want to check if the same thing happened to you and your launcher.

This is been happening to me for the last couple weeks and I found a way to fix it you have to minimize the game (windows key) and click on the launcher with the mouse arrow then maximize the game again or second thing that works for me too is click on settings with the keyboard select video change my option of full screen to windowed and then change it back to full screen after that it works perfectly I just don’t know what triggers the issue, any of this steps works for me I hope it helps you too.

It will keep happening and you have to reset the focus of the program each time. Its due to their new launcher. Found the bug when some of us were forced to use the beta launcher a bit ago...they pushed that broken beta out to everyone so now it will happen more often.

Best bet is to close the launcher and not have it running...but there is still a huge glaring issue that user inputs are not locked to a specific application instance and instead are being recorded and recognized elsewhere. Making me really wish I didnt have to continuously type out my password every time I logged into this game.

While playing I was monitoring my CPU usage and temps and was wondering why my CPU temps were spiking and the game was starting to stutter. This issue caused my browser to open up as many tabs as it possibly could and thus overload my CPU...in 110+ summer heat.

Warning to anyone who is playing this game and experiencing these issues, monitor your cpu temps, if this were to happen on a laptop it could have caused some serious damage.
