What mitigation comes first ?

Hi all , small question but interesting to know

What comes first

Mitigation or minor and major protection

Or do minor and major resolve come first

Lets say you have 10k dmg , does it then first mitigate 10% of major protection bringing it to 9k, and then the resolve mitigates after that?

    They're interchangable.

Let's assume You have 33k resistances which equals to 50% dmg reduction and major protection which equals to 10% dmg mitigation.

Mentioned 10k dmg can get reduced by 50% to 5k and then that remaining 5k is reduced by 10% which is 500 so You're left with 4,5k dmg taken.

If You swap calculations in places You will get 10k reduced by 10% which lefts You with 9k and then that 9k is reduced by 50% which leaves You once again with 4,5k dmg taken.

As for resolve buff specifically it gets added first to Your overall resistance value and then that resistance value as a whole is being transferred into percentage dmg reduction that is later part of dmg reduction formula. around 660 resistances equals to 1% dmg reduction and You can have max of 50% dmg reduction from resistances making 33k resistances a hard cap in PvE.

Ok so if you have major resolve its about 5900 , which is around 8-9% mitigation

Is major protection a better statt then?

its not 100% exactly as galeriano explained, mitigations are a bit more complicated than that, they can be either additive or multiplicative

you generally always want to have major resolve unless your over the armor cap

if you want a better understand of how mitigations work in this game, this thread has a very very detailed explanation: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/657489/eso-mitigation-issue-100-mitigation-achieved

edit to note: if you read the whole thread some of the info slightly changed due to PTS patches (since that thread was during the gold road pts), but the thread explains what change comes out of that
