Wing of the Crow game breaking bug (workaround inside)

When I did it, it took me many tries. At first, I waited too long to destroy the wards, they timed out, and I had to jump down to reset it, and that was followed by several retries where I followed the fox and then didn't stay on the path properly, and fell off involuntarily. Pretty frustrating, but I got there eventually! :)

I was worried about this quest after reading this thread but I gave it a try today. More good luck than good management I'd wager but it all went fine for me. Whew!

Okay, so, here's my issue. The first "leg" of the quest went fine, but the second leg did not. I dispelled the wards along the path, but once I got to the last one and was close to the platform, I'd run out of time and fell. Now it's only doing one ward (at the start of the second leg), and I have to try to race against time, following the fox, trying not to fall, but still running out of time just before I reach that last platform. Could you at least extend the time of the ward dispelling magic so we can still cross the chasm if we've already dispelled all the other wards? Restarting the entire quest is a pain.

This bugged for me as well, stranded with unmoving fox. I've abandonned the quest and will try again.

The problem is the first seal to the right doesn't show up so there is no way to make the fox move forward :( The seals down the path and out of reach to the left ALL show up :s

This isn't the only bug. I checked my internet speed. 945 up and 100 down. There is nothing to indicate that this is a connection issue. I have a 3080 GPU with 8gb ram and I have 8 cores and 32 gb ram.

This is an ESO issue, just like my odd disconnects are an ESO issue. This is the only game that I have game breaking issues playing. I'm playing WoW MOP Remix, Enshrouded, Soul Mask, New World, and ARK and a variety of cozy games. I'm retired :D I have time, lol. No issues ever on those titles. :#

This quest was tedious as heck. Four times I got within one step of the last platform and then fell because I must have run out of time, mostly because the ward dispelling was a pain. You have this tiny little space to circle around and hit thrhee wards - and the NPCs get into the hitbox - just annoying.

I think the game must have taken pity on me because around the fifth time after I fell - I was at the next step.

Amazing. Simply amazing. This would have been a cool mechanic if it was working properly and wasn't halting my progression.

Just a tip: if one of the major bullet-pointed features of the chapter (scribing) is *this* broken, prioritize a fix.

This is not one of the "we will all laugh at it later" bugs, of which there have been many. This is one of those, "wow, I'm incredibly frustrated, I don't have time for this garbage, have they never heard of quality assurance" bugs that makes me question all the money I've put into this game over the last decade.

Seriously, get your acts together, ZOS. Two quests into this chapter and I already want to uninstall this trash.

I tried this quest last night for the first time and was marginally aware ahead of time that it has issues, so I tried to watch very carefully for the wards that must be cleared.

The first leg went fairly well, meaning I managed to spot and dispel all of the wards and reach the Fox where he'd stopped, but I felt rushed because he'd mentioned the need to be quick or something similar.

The second leg was disastrous, as I spotted numerous wards in the distance on both sides of the path, but was unable to get the prompts to dispel them aside from perhaps two of them. Thinking that I must need to keep going to be close enough to dispel them, and worried that I was going to run out of time, I stopped trying to backtrack along the path and kept going, but then I was beside the Fox, the path was gone, and I still couldn't interact with any of the several wards that were clearly visible in various directions.

I ported to one of my houses, then went back to the Crow's wing, but the Fox was evidently still waiting at the second spot so it was impossible to try again.

I abandoned the quest but was too tired to try again.

After reading this thread, my comments are that there are obviously problems with the second leg of this quest, as it seems to be where just about everyone has run into trouble. The number and positions of wards that must be dispelled might need to be adjusted, because there seem to be too many wards to dispel in the time allowed, and most of them seem to be positioned at distances where it's very tricky if not impossible to get a prompt to dispel them. In addition to possibly moving some of the wards closer to the path, their hit boxes or whatever it is that determines where you must be to get an interaction prompt for them may need to be enlarged or widened.

Also, it might be a good idea to add the ability to chat with the Fox when we reach the circle where he's waiting, so we can tell him that we were unable to dispel all of the wards and we need to try again. Ideally, that would result in all three of us taking a portal back to the previous circle, from which the Fox would again show us the path and lead us to the next circle, hopefully letting us dispel all of the wards we'd missed before. This would be repeatable as many times as necessary until we could dispel all of the wards. Also, the wards we've already dispelled should not respawn each time, unless we actually abandoned and restarted the entire quest.

I'll try again tonight, but I'm already feeling pessimistic from reading this thread. :(

Is that all we've got right now? Gotta abandon it? I think a lot of the problem is the distance away to dispel the wards.
    ReQRHHb.jpg

Guess I'll give abandoning it a shot. Really want to get the horse.

EDIT: since I shut down the game, and it was in an Instance situation, the game automatically started me over, so it was pretty quick getting back to the Fox and the Path. I was able to finish it this time.

Still an issue. Tried to use the AOE trick, didn't seem to work for me. Now trying the 15 minute recommendation. This is really immersion breaking to have this bug in the game. The wards don't appear, so you are stuck with no way forward. Really poor game design and to have this tied to an achievement for a mount is even worse.

Got this bug as well. Fox won't progress after walking slow. Leaving game for 15 mins to see if that works.

Okay, I tried it again tonight, and this time I managed to complete it despite a few misteps.

I think part of my problem the first time was that all of the wards are apparently visible at once, even though there are only a few that you need to dispel on each leg of the path, so partly it's a question of recognizing which wards to ignore for the time being and which wards to dispel, then finding the spots on the path where the wards will show a prompt. Perhaps if the wards didn't become visible until you actually need to dispel them, it would help alleviate the confusion.

I did fall through the path two or three times, presumably because I wasn't fast enough, but fortunately I reappeared at the start and was able to get going again, then I was able to carefully run after the Fox and keep up.

I was able to complete the Wing of the Crow on NA, but have run into the bug on EU.
I was able to use the Wall to get to the first platform when the Fox stopped moving, but there isn't a focus area to continue.
I tried abandoning the quest, left the game for 16 minutes, logged back in and started the quest again, only to get stuck at the same exact spot.

@ZOS_Kevin Can you give us an update please? I would like to finish the questline.

    Thanks

I mentioned this earlier in the thread: when you run out of hovering path to walk along, and there are no sigils in sight to destroy, just jump off the path: you don't die, instead you just get instantly ported back to the start of the path. You'll then see the fox starting to run along the path, and the path will be highlighted. When you reach the point where you previously jumped off, you should get another chance to destroy the sigils so you can proceed further.

At least, that's how it worked for me: it took me several tries, because I fell off the path a few times because I didn't quite stay on it. But I eventually traversed the whole path to its end.

That is pretty much exactly how I finally made it all the way through, although my falling from the path was unintended rather than intentional. I'll be attempting the Wing of the Crow today on PC EU, and hopefully what I went through on PC NA will help me get through it much more easily.

I just did the Wing of the Crow on PC EU and was able to complete it easily the first time, with no falling from the path and no need to abandon and reset the quest.

Knowing exactly what to do from having completed it (with difficulty) on PC NA was a major help, and as I think I said before, a large part of my problem the first time was that all of the wards are visible at once, even though there are only two or three that you must dispel on each leg of the path, so it's confusing to know which wards you need to dispel and which are actually associated with the next leg of path.

You can see this problem of all the wards apparently becoming visible at once in other parts of the questline, such as being able to see a ward overhead just before the circle appears, then the circle appears and the ward disappears, because you're supposed to use the True-Sight tool inside that circle to make the ward appear so you can dispel it. It seems like the visibility flags of the wards are all linked, such that using the True-Sight tool inside any circle makes them all appear at once, instead of their visibility flags being tied to just the specific circles which are supposed to specific wards appear.

So I think my problem with the hard to see road is I made it to the 2nd safe space, dispelling wards along the way, but when I fell, those wards didn't come back, so the fox just ran his happy butt all the way to where we made it before, and I had no wards to dispel along that path before it faded. I haven't logged back in yet to see if those wards are back to slow fuzzy fox down any yet.

^^^^^^ This. I am hoping the wards are back when I log in next. They should probably be made to reset if you fall.

When I attempted it the second time, after having abandoned the quest and waiting until the following day to try again, the already-dispelled wards did not respawn each time I fell from the path and was placed back at the beginning to try again. And that's precisely how I think it should work-- you should not have to keep dispelling the same wards you already dispelled before you fell from the path. Knowing that the wards you've already dispelled on a given leg of the path will not respawn allows you to run faster to keep up with the Fox if need be.

It seems that if you fall and die or port to wayshrine at the start of the dungeon, or exit, the quest marker disappears and so do actual the focus points. I have 2/3 done in this last stage of the quest but the quest marker now points to the exit (to the quest line bestower?) There is no sign of the last focus point anywhere. I used maps and ran around all the spawn points to make sure. I am reluctant to abandon.

    This has happened to others.

It maybe the same issue as with the fox quest line discussed above. If you fall it breaks the quest progress. Then the only choice is to start the whole thing again :(

    EDIT:

I found a work around without abandoning to start again.. While logging out for 15 mins didn't solve the problem, returning to The Scholarium, logging out and back in next day, travelling back thru the portal to Vvardenfell and running back into the delve showed the quest circle and the focus point. All done.

For the fox quest, if you fall off the floating platform, it only ports you back to the start of the platform route, it doesn't force you to restart the whole quest. It's inconvenient, of course, I'm not disputing that.

First part where you channel and dispel those wards worked, but the second part is bugged. Falling down means that next time you either have two wards very far away - I mean they (two wards) are virtually on the edge of distant mountains.

Why isn't those wards part of the path that Fox are meant to guide on towards? It would make it easier to target and less confusing where path as supposed to be.

I did abandon quest and waited 15 min to restart and have still same issue on second part of this quest where you follow Fox and dispel wards,

It is really tiresome to restart quest from start for Wing of The Crow.

Ice staff didn't show much of path either when I tried to use that to show what was left to get to other side and it seems like the rest of path is timing out when you get past Fox without Dispelling Wards. My character is also stamina based to magica is very fast getting low from using Wall of Elements (cooldown + cooldown on potions), so this trick is probably only useful for magica based PC.

Doing it on another character, falling off isn't an inconvenience. It ENDS the ability to continue. This time through I was careful not to wipe out all the Right side first. The Fox keeps going, I am right behind him on the purple path and I fall THROUGH the purple path. And what worked to reset it the first time Does NOT work now.

Its ridiculous. Why didn't they just build in a long way around if you wanted to use that instead of this nonsense?

    :#

EDIT:after falling 20+ times finally had to stay right on the Fox's tail to keep from falling off. I don't know what changed. Did this on 3 other accounts. The first had issues documented above, but when finally got restarted had no issues following the path. 2nd and 3rd had no issues at all. All of a sudden on This last one kept falling THROUGH the purple walkway.

Wish I'd seen this before I did the quest. I restart 5 times before it finally worked for me. Even then I think it flaked because I hadn't made it to the end, but when I fell it put me at the end. I didn't question gifts from the gods and completed the quest before it changed its mind.

Another tip for cheesing it: the Arcanist portal is finally useful for once. It will only appear on the real path, so you can stand in one spot and keep spamming the button until it appears. Hop through, don’t move, and repeat once it’s off cooldown. The Wall of Elements trick works too but I found the animation to be larger than the path itself and kept stepping off. If you’re an Arcanist, the portal is a relatively safe way to do it. (I did have to use WoE at the very end because the portal wouldn’t spawn).
