Modernizing old classes

Are there any plans to fix up old class skill lines such as Nightblade and Sorcerer?

As currently, their skylines are a colossal mess, When comparison to the new ones such as Necromancer and the Arcanist.

    Nightblade and Sorc have 2 of the most fleshed out kits in the game, and you're comparing it to Necro? The class with one of the most dysfunctional, buggy, hot mess skill lines in the game?

    I love how the whole Necromancer community (including me) literally rises from the grave when someone mentions Necromancer.

    Given that sorcerer and nightblade are two of the most popular classes according to some polls, if the developers were to treat these classes as they currently treat necromancers, the game would likely have already been abandoned and closed

    If you're talking about how necromancer and arcanist each have 3 distinct skill lines which align with tanking, damage dealing, and healing, it's 10 years too late to give the base game classes that treatment. They would become so radically different, they might as well be new classes. There would be a lot of unhappy players, and understandably so.

    The base game class skill lines really aren't a mess at all though. They're just sorted by theme instead of intended utility (tank, damage, or heal).

    Also, no class should be treated like the necromancer class. That class is a dumpster fire.

    Nonsense.

    Games change.

    They could easily strip out the elemental line of each and throw them into the mages guild where everyone - including existing sorcs / dks / wardens - could still use them. Add another class line for each.

    So existing players who love those abilities could keep playing exactly at they do now if that's what they want.

    Everyone wins.

    I'd much prefer that they work on bringing Necro (and to some extent, Templar) more in-line with the classes that people enjoy, rather than make major changes to popular classes just for the sake of matching some theoretical idea of how a class should be designed.

    well lets take the nightblade Assassination skill line we have killer blade, teleporting strike, blur, reapers mark and grim focus,
    now tell me how blur is an Assassination skill when veiled strike is shadow.
    they don't need to change skill functions they just have move them in the proper lines

    I disagree and think it’s rather boring to have skill lines by role. It’s much more interesting to have different morphs have different utility. You see this problem most glaringly in Warden where ice was arbitrarily made the tank line, plants healing, and animals damage; it would be much better to have the functions vary by morph to enable a cryomancer DD, use of vines for snaring, etc. IMHO, Arcanist is fine with this division because the class is one theme anyway.

    Where sorc needs help is in making skills that look fun to use actually be viable! It’s great that sorc can be a summoner and that these daedric pets have use in damage, healing, and tanking, but why is the storm calling line all but useless for everything??? I want to be able to call down lightning on my foes!

    No. Just no. The classic classes are perfectly fine and in general have a great class kit. Zos goes to change them and they may as well throw dog *** on all the players. Everyone but ZoS knows the necromancer treatment has basically ruined the class.
    Crown Crates are a trap. Don't fall for the gamble! Balance? What Balance? Balance, smellance.
    Necro for them RP feels.

    On the contrary, I think necromancer and warden should have their kits reworked to be more like the older classes. Arcanist is fine, they seem to have found their stride with tying roles to skill lines with that one, but necro and warden?

    Warden's kit is too broad thematically to be as hyper specialized as it's skill lines are. it doesn't have one overarching theme to it like arcanist and necromancer do. It would greatly benefit from cross pollination between roles to open up what the different flavors of warden are capable of.

    Necromancer on the other hand has the singular theme across all lines going for it, but alot of it's skills feel like they were put in the wrong skill line for the sole purpose of tying them to a specific role, and it has quite a few skills that are just doubled up versions of other skills it already has for a different role. Examples, gravelord is about raising the undead, mender should be a gravelord skill. Bone tyrant uses bones as tools, flameskull should be a bone tyrant skill, Living death reconstitutes flesh and uses soul magic, scythe should be here. Graveyard and life amid death should be two morphs of the same skill, and likewise for the healing and dps tethers, which leaves open space to give necro new abilities to cover things it's desperately missing.

    Would rather have all weapon abilities in the skill lines moved to actual weapons in the weapon skill area. Make actual spears and get rid of Templar Aedric Spear. Make whips and get rid of the dk whip. Make a one handed assassin dagger/single handed weapon ability and get rid of the daggers the nb uses (and make offhand handhelds) Add scythes/halberds to the game and get rid of necro scythe ability. Make shields a separate skill line - including chain pulls etc like the dk has. Make a dawnguard crossbow an actual weapon, not a fighter's guild ability. You get the idea. along with bucklers, tower shields, one handed staves, offhand, slings, shortbows, longbows, etc etc. etc etc.
    Then...remake the skill lines to offer buffs and spells that stay within the theme of the class. For example, rather than a Templar Aedric Spear, make an ability that imbues any weapon used with Aedric power, etc. etc. One could use their imagination for the rest of the weapons and skill abilities as well.
    Also, a separate skill tree for pets/leadership/presence would be nice. to use the Templar as an example again...being able to have a Deva/Angel type follower would be a nice. Flame Atronach for the DK, Daedra for the Sorc, Perhaps a dark apparition for the NB. Etc. etc.
    I have always wanted a game that had falconry...
    Of course, schools of magic and an expanded combat system, ,which scribing is going to attempt but fall sadly short of accomplishing...who knows.
    If one were to look at a class like the Warden...there are actually three classes that are trying to be combined into one. Although some may like the bear or some of the class skills...a 'nature/green/plant class could standalone if it were developed. The same goes for an animal summoner class with wolves and things one could have to act as followers. I am thinking of the old Diablo II Druid where you had wolves and bear followers, or the Necro that actually had permanent followers like skeletons etc. etc. Of course, we all know what an ice class could be like, ,in addition to all the other schools of magic and elements, etc etc.
    For some reason, the classes in eso seem like they intentionally give you one little taste of what you might want - and provide a sort of false satisfaction, but they don't actually flesh out anything to be substantial. The Warden bear is nice..but pet bugs and cliff racers that act as magic missiles (they really arent pets besides a 2 second animation). The classes sprinkle a little of this and a little of that...but one is left wanting such that no one is ever going to be happy. This is done to the point that one might believe it is an intentionally designed approach to tease but not actually provide and trick people into thinking they got something when they actual don't. It almost seems like an intentional deceptive game and character/class design approach.

    On one hand, updates to old classes could be cool, but on the other… it could be horrible.

    That and I do not want ANY of the other classes getting the Necro or to a lesser extent, Warden treatment 😂

    I hope that if they do modernise it, they do it well. I don't want the other classes ruined like the necro.

    I have suggested that like a million times and it would make sense as Zos designated shadow as the more defensive skill line for nightblades anyway.

    Dragonknight needs an overhaul primarily animation wise but the class is just clunky and boring

    I love reading the great suggestions in some of these threads. No acknowledgement from ZoS and hardly a chance of it happening but they are so insightful.

    Necro requires modernizing, maybe also plar but it's not certain, with the rest of the classes no, they are fine, except that the arcanist class should be balanced.
