boneyard without the gravestones

honestly the gravestones have never been something i liked the look of and after seeing someone else using it and it not having the gravestones cause apparently you can see others gravestones for performance, i honestly think the gravestones VFX should just be removed all together... like the swirling necrotic energy looks cool enough and if the radius was increased to something similar to the caltrops, i think the ability would be perfect.

    Hundred percent agree. I find casting this ability also very clunky and I hope that changing the animation would make it more reliable. It’s always delayed when I cast it and I think it wasn’t cast so I recast only for it to pop up twice 😕

    Necro for them RP feels.

    and it lasts like 10 seconds as opposed to razor caltrops which also slows movement, does physical dmg meaning it can proc minor breach also, AND both lasts double the time at 20 seconds while being like at least double the size as well...

    Though impressed with Necros when they launched, this struck me as discordant.

    Compared to the rest of their abilities, it feels a bit cheap / obvious / gauche.

    Objectively it's not dreadful and Warden abilities draw upon animals from multiple regions so the use of gravestones with this ability isn't out of line with that but I don't love it.

    yea. like honestly i woulda prefered the vfx to be swirling necrotic energy and maybe souls flying around in a circle or even just swirling necrotic energy like the bone goliath form but honestly its current vfx and the weakness in its duration and radius just suck. honestly thinking about it, i would prefer if they just made it a 6m radius on self that afflicts enemies in it with 4 seconds or maybe even just 3 or 2 seconds of major breach AND boosting its duration to 20 seconds like all other on self aoes like blood mist or arctic wind to basically add on to the theme of the ravenous goliath ability but somewhat weaker and more focused on tank usefulness with than the damage version would increate the radius to like 8 or 10m and drop the breach in favor of more dmg while keeping the 10 second duration

    hell, it could even be renamed like 'unnerving presence' or something and kinda make ya feel almost like a death knight which i feel is what ZOS meant the necro tanks vibe to be anyways just like how the dragonknight tank is meant to feel like a dragon in human form or a sorcerer dps is meant to feel like a master of the most dangerous element being lightning or wardens being empowered by an innate connection to nature.

    I agree, and to be honest I also kind of feel the same way about scythe. Like, I get why it's there, because of our connecting death to scythes via the grim reaper but... I can't really think of any in universe examples that tie scythes to death, which just makes it come across as kind of shoehorned in and 4th wall breaking to me, in a "well we need a scythe because necromancers in other media have scythes" kind of way.

    yea like they could change it to you swinging your melee weapon in a wide arc or making you summon a soul eater sword temporarily if your using a bow or staff since those very much so exist in game with one of the BY FAR most famous examples being umbra who literally is a sentient sword made from a piece of clavicus viles power that consumes the soul and entire being of its user turning them into a warrior named umbra and also the ebony knight who is always a RIDICULOUSLY strong warrior who lives only to challenge others to a duel always operating on the premise of only fighting those who accept their challenge before slaying them and letting the sword eat their fallen foes souls.

    honestly i would prefer to see boneyard fully reworked to be made into an on self aura ability where it basically uses the vfx of the ravenous bone goliaths swirling soul aoe but just restricted to AT MOST 10m if not even just 6m that lasts for 20 seconds and applies major breach for 4 seconds meaning even if they temporarily leave your radius, they will still be afflicted with major breach.

    I love these threads - all these great ideas to day dream about. Knowing the chance of this happening is slim and if it does happen a lot of people commenting would have moved on to something else.
