Can anyone explain the details of the curated drops system?

I am trying to fill the stickerbook for my daughter, so we're running dungeons with her, and getting an awful lot of already-known drops when there are unknown ones even in the same set.

E.g., running Tempest Island now, and halfway thru it (3 bosses so far) she's got, in order:
Overwhelming Gloves (already known)
Storm Master's Helmet (wasn't known)
Jolting Girdle (already known)

At the same time, she still has unknown armor pieces in all three sets.

Different bosses have different subsets of the body pieces available to drop. So your first and third drop were restricted to a subset where she's already collected all 3 sets, like the hands and waist.

i just use the addon bindall to auto bind anything i need to learn, and you will pretty much always max out armor before weapons anyway in 99% of content

you usually only need about 5 runs of any dungeon to max out armor, but about 40 runs to max out weapons
    plays PC/NA

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

Curation only works on last boss of dungeon.
Only armor (maybe jewelry too) drop from other bosses.
Chests have everything in their table loot, no curation.

Yeah, it's not a big deal to collect them, but I just got curious.

Curation works on all the bosses based on their loot table, not just the final boss. For example if you have all the chest and leg pieces, the chest and leg boss isn't going to drop something it doesn't normally drop so you will get a duplicate even if you have hand or feet pieces you still need

Is there any info somewhere on which bosses drop which pieces?

I thought that only overland drops were divided into what kind of bosses drops what, and for group dungeons, it was like, all the bosses but the final one drop any piece of armor, and the final one drops weapons/jewelry (with named items being the only deviation).

    Think this is still valid
Minor bosses will drop one of: Hands, Waist, Feet, or unique item.
Bosses will drop one of: Chest, Shoulder, Head, Legs, or unique item.
Final bosses will drop one of: Jewelry, Weapon, Shield, or unique item.

What is/how to tell the difference between minor bosses and bosses?

Especially considering huge difference in their numbers, e.g., SG having only 3 bosses, WGT, RoM with 4 each, and VoM having 8; and that's not counting dungeons with secret ones (and Bal Sunnar having puzzle 2 chests instead of secret bosses).

Generally I believe it relies on the boss moving the dungeon along.

Secret bosses I believe are minor. There are some dungeons with skippable bosses, like Fungal 1 for example, that would be considered minor, but the bosses you have to fight to finish the dungeon or even the pledge, are normal bosses.

I think, the first boss encounter in most dungeons is a minor boss. But you can always just tell by what set pieces the boss is dropping.

At the end of the day, you are almost always going to be stuck on weapon farming, which only curate from the final boss and have a chance to drop from the chests, or random enemies. Everything else is going to curate pretty quickly, no matter the dungeon.

    From your OP:

    Overwhelming Gloves (already known)
    Storm Master's Helmet (wasn't known)
    Jolting Girdle (already known)

So, it would seem that Tempest bosses are ordered:
    Minor Boss
    Boss
    Minor Boss

So it would follow that you have all of the drops from Minor Bosses curated and only need the Boss drops left for curation, and likely the Final Boss drops for weapons.

im not sure if this is still the case for newer dlc dungeons with only 3 bosses, unless the secret bosses are considered minor bosses, but i dont think ive noticed a limited drop pool, they all seem to drop all of the armor, except the last boss of course

it is a little hard to tell when your doing a full run though

Yeah, I honestly don't really pay attention to body pieces. They are done dropping after a handful of runs in most cases.
