Infinite Archive - (LoM) Selene Boss

Just curious, thought I'd ask:

Is the Selene boss (inspired from Lair Of Maarselok) broken? I fought her, killed the Spider miniboss and mob spiders, attacked her until she reached a certain health level and then a spider and bear spawned at the same time. Ok..?

But why did the Spider miniboss spawn 2 times? That never happened in Lair Of Maar.

Continuing on, I died after the bear spawned and I had too many enemies on the screen. I thought, "ok next time I'll just burn the boss." Then when I did that I got Selene down to 30% I think within a minute and then I had 2 spider bosses and 2 bear bosses..?????!!!!! Really??

So I died of course and decided not to burn the boss and try to take down the minibosses first before attacking Selene to manage the intensity. Well 2 spiders spawned before her health hit 80%... How? What the heck are the mechanics then? Spiders spawn on a timer and Bears spawn at specific health intervals? That's essentially just a DPS-Gate, not content I enjoy in Solo-Arena playing.

Mind you I had ZERO deaths until this boss. I even had the damn Mutilator mini-boss on one of the basic vision rounds. And those are pretty skewed unfavorably against the player with how they time their spawn at the beginning, and do enough damage to kill you in 3-5 basic attacks...

Every other boss I've fought and died to, I realized my limitations and grew from it. The Selene boss has felt broken. At least remove the focused AoE she does so it doesn't follow us while we're trying to manage the spawns. Please?

    The mechanics for the bosses aren't the exact same as their original counterparts, more "inspired by".

    the spawns for the bear and spider are on timers, if you dont kill her fast, or dont kill the adds, it can spawn more than one

    the spider is especially annoying because even if you block the spiders heavy attack it will still knock you down

    i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

    Well, idc for scores or anything. So I guess I'm skipping and starting over when I see this boss. I noticed that block wasn't working, which is an extra punishing mechanic, forcing roll dodge when roll dodge doesn't prevent AoE attacks, which the bears do.

    But what doesn't make sense is that when I burned Selene, the spiders and bears appeared quickly anyway (Faster than when I was methodically taking out the add spiders and the mini-bosses, they spawned slowly). Until the mechanics make sense: Pure timers (burning), or health-intervals--I don't like this boss and it just feels bad. 🤷‍♀️

    blocking does still block the dmg from the spider heavy, but it doesnt block the knockdown

    when ive burned her, she normally doesnt even have time to spawn anything, or its spawning as shes dying

    when ive slow burned her (because it was like arc 7 when running into her), ive seen like 2-3 of both the spiders and bears

    shes honestly far from the worst bosses that spawn in there, lady thorn is more annoying because of the forced bat swarm mechanic, or a few of the dragon bosses which unless you are seriously nuking still do their flying phase and just slow the whole fight down

    It's odd because I did Lady Thorn a couple cycles before Selene, and it wasn't anywhere nearly as punishing. In ALL of my other arc boss fights ever-- I've never died and lost all 3 of my threads on the same boss--except on a Tho'at replicanum.

    PS: (edited my previous comment/post). For some reason I'm not believing the timers work properly because more minibosses spawned the faster I burned (which eludes to health-intervals, not timers), but also--the spiders still seemed to spawn on timers. So maybe bears are health intervals and spiders are timers?

    lady thorn isnt really super difficult, just very annoying with the forced wait phase, so i would rather have selene over lady thorn as a boss (though i think selene is a cycle 3 boss, and lady thorn is cycle 4)

    You probably don't have enough health/armor/recoveries/passive healing, etc. There is not much in the way of DPS checks or guaranteed one-shots in IA. Slow and steady, build for survival, let verses and visions make up what you are sacrificing in offense. A lot of IA is not so much mechanics as just throwing lots of stuff at you and are you hardy enough to survive it. Selene throws 2 bears at me? 17 bears? Who cares. I have 50k health, 4k health regen, 30k resistances, multiple passive heals, a damage shield, etc. I got knocked down back-to-back-to-back by 3 spiders up at the same time? Who cares. I'll heal up to full passively while flat on my back. People underestimate survivability in IA and overestimate the importance of DPS.
