Question for players who run around LOS

I was out playing around with a Templar build, just trying to do something with it; and a couple of times, ran into outnumbered situations which caused me to "tower hump."
It's not something I generally look to do, but I do get that you may not have a choice given the numbers.

My question is, how often do you actually get kills vs prolong the inevitable?

Think I got 2 kills total today after a handful of attempts and pretty sure one crashed as they stopped and stood still. Other than that, I'd get 1 close, their friends would swarm, and I then could not target the low health to save my life. The OP beam as it were; was practically worthless

This applies beyond this as it seems to be a frustration even in large fights. Finishing off a target when they are in a target rich environment

    i dont think thats too far from what ive seen (not necessarily as a person using LOS, but as a person trying to take down someone using LOS)

    they usually dont get a lot of kills unless the players going after them are not likely well equipped/experienced pvpers, there are times ive seen them run around a tower and never actually kill someone, mostly just desperately trying to stay alive, and only usually get kills when they catch someone alone, or get a well timed ult dump

    me personally when trying to deal with someone using LOS is aoes and dots for pressure, if there are other allies around chasing one way ill run the other to try to cut them off or surprise them, or use a siege like meatbags or fire ballista (if they are in a tower)

    so from a personal viewpoint, ive never found the people using LOS to kite people that effective at actually getting kills unless they are excellent with their timing or getting lucky and dealing with lesser equipped/lesser skilled players

    Pretty frequently. All of my best fights have been whilst utilizing heavy LOS.

    LOS is the number one tool a solo player can utilize to "even the odds" against a larger number of opponents. A lot of people here on the forums seem to heavily dislike players that utilize LOS, but the truth is you've got no choice in the vast majority of outnumbered engagements if you'd like a chance of winning rather than just falling over in an open field.

    Yeah, I've run into players using it and have seen some randoms get taken out, and every now and then, I'll run into someone capable and would get me if I don't give them proper respect and avoid pushing the issue.

    I wasn't out looking to draw that sort of fight earlier. I was just solo and taking back resources and kind of expected a solo or duo if not just people that often just try to snatch a quick resource hoping for no fight and was surprised to find a half dozen or more

    It just got me thinking, how do solos finish the kill any more? That's the real question. Sounds like they need to be squishier, and I may need something other than a Templar to do it quicker.

    a lot of the way i see people die is usually dot pressure + burst, if in a small scale fight

    burst is the big one, dots mostly just counter any hots going on, but you need burst to melt their hp into execute range and then finish with execute, but this works best if you hit them with some sort of cc to so they cant block the execute

    I play sorc so this might not apply to your class, but I've changed how I approach theory crafting to squeeze out as much dmg as possible while still retaining some survivability. I went the max HP route - dumping most of my attribute points into HP to get around 37k HP, stack some movement speed, then go full damage with everything else, including dropping defending back bar for infused wep dmg enchant.

    I'm not sure how this will apply to templar, but it's worth testing.

    A lot of the time it comes down to how many are chasing me, if it's only a few (3 or less) I will tend to try and stick it out in the open (unless they are good players), but remain at least near some LoS in case more show up (as is always the case).
    But more often than not lately, it tends to be 8 or more that will rock up (especially when taking an EP resource), at which point running to/around LoS is mandatory. There is almost nothing else (for a solo player) in the game that will give the same amount of survivability and potential to create opportunities to attempt to turn and burn, outside of a ridiculously extreme skill gap or smart use of cloak/shade, even streak doesn't really cut it most of the time anymore, sure it can help to make some distance, but by the time you turn, the enemies are typically on your tail again already unless you went full run away mode.

    Even duo's are starting to be forced into that LoS playstyle with how common it is for groups to be larger (well closer to 10 people) now and with all the free damage from procs and abilities like ele sus, MDW, etc.

    The only ones not fully running that LoS playstyle are perma block tanks (also commonly known as troll tanks), and even they are starting to use LoS, especially when things like siege, negates and other AoE start being dropped or the numbers get big enough.

    In most situations, if you're having to LoS, it's because you're meaningfully outnumbered and the chances of getting a kill without being killed are low.

    I mainly LoS to buy time, recover HP, get potion off cooldown, build up Ultimate, etc.

    There's nothing wrong with LoS'ing. Any smart player will use that in their PVP toolkit.

    If you're finding that you're having to LoS in 1v1s too much, it's probably a sign that either your burst isn't good enough, you aren't picking your fights selectively enough, or you are too squishy (low HP and / or armor) and having to be on the back foot.

    LoS is often necessary outnumbered even against players of lesser skill. If you're trying to take on a 3 man group of skilled players, the LoS won't save you and you will die.
    A fairly mediocre nightblade that occasionally kills people

    Just launch meatbags at los objects when the Benny hill show starts, works a treat at shifting the fight to open ground.

    I use it a lot because most of my characters are built for speed and damage but not much passive defense or healing. Really the only way I can survive most fights is to never let my opponent touch me. Hoooooowever... I find my internet generally doesn't allow for much LoS when it really counts. About as often as it helps me break sight from opponents it also does the opposite. I'll round a corner and still get hit with a melee attack even though an entire building is between me and the other person and then when I come back around to bite back I just see the dreaded 'Invalid Target' or 'target is out of range' messages spamming at the top even though the person is standing right in front of me and STILL hitting me somehow with melee attacks. When fighting outnumbered though it really is the only reliable way to even stand a chance. Its a small chance but even that is better than no chance at all

    Often enough, and the guys chasing will generally tire out long before I do.

    Running around is a means, not an end, but it is actually fun and gets some fun tells from your enemies.
