    Hey there!

There's a few things to know. PvP or PvE? 4 man content, overland like world bosses, or trials?

One of your sets will need to be tormentor in pve, as that is the method of taunting to guarantee aggro.

That's probably not worth the effort now though since it'll be gone in a couple of months :(

Tormentor is going the way of the DoDo bird. Sad that ZOS decided to destroy this gear set after what...ten years? With not one complaint as far as I know in all this time. Poof...destroyed.

Tormentor/rush of agony. Could probably use oakensoul with it too.

Tormentor’s AoE taunt was removed. Despite that, the set is absolutely necessary for a werewolf tank as there is no other way for them to taunt.

You know, you're totally right. Somehow my mind translated the comment in the patch notes to "Deleted this set. Metrics show there were still some players using a handful of old sets and having fun with them. We will be monitoring all fun had going forward so as to help identify future sets to remove." ;)

Anyway, I think it's still a pretty big blow to werewolves in general since there with very little reason to play one as a tank and one of the very few things that made it more bearable has been removed.

As a werewolf tank main, I highly recommend giving fuzzballs another chance (or first chance depending).

    Every tank plays differently, but barring very high level content (vet hm trials and score runs) its not just viable, but a fun and effective way to play the game. The biggest weaknesses of werewolf tank are;

    -No pull
-No utility ultimate (no warhorn might be a consideration in large group content)
-No innate access to damage shields
-No weapon abilities or passives, such as block cost mitigation.

What you get as a werewolf tank, though?

    -Permanent major resists
    -Hightened stamina pool
    -Major breach
    -Aoe root
    -Hp based heal
-Unique flat mitigation percentage (pack leader)
-Extreme mobility (gap closer and stackable speed boost)
-Group damage through minor courage (stacks with SPC's major courage and is multiplied by major/minor buffs)
    -Minor maim
    -On demand off balance
-group wide empower AND minor force
-Heavy attacks restore far more stamina.

What's very important to note here is that everything I just listed in the pros section comes from skills or passives innate to your werewolf. The chassis of this playstyle is very strong, group focused, and applicable to a wide variety of content. I definitely see the value of oakensoul like Soarora mentioned, but I find there's a lot of overlap. Personally, I run tormentor and swarm mother with a flex set. The set depends on the content I'm doing, but given the incredible amount of utility I bring to the table I often find I use sets more often described as "selfish".

One of my favorite go-tos (even after the nerf ages ago) is Alessian. Health recovery is slept on as a tank, an anything I can do to help my healers and dps focus their jobs and trust in me to not die, hold aggro, and keep buffs going out is always a good idea. Another set I highly recommend is Brands of the Imperium. The damage shield granted form this set applies to your group, not just you. It also helps alleviate that reliance on your magicka to keep your health in good order like hp recovery does.

If you like Alessian, you should give Bog Raider a look. The set gives you 1k health recovery when an enemy you have damaged dies (you don't have to kill it), and in addition to that, you also get 10 ultimate, which helps regain your werewolf faster if you lose it. It has some pros and cons, but I like it.

Sets that gain or give ultimate regeneration or cost reduction are generally garbage for werewolf in content because they eat up stat allocation and don't provide any benefit once transformed. It's why Shapeshifter's Chain was never seriously used by werewolves prior to being given ability cost reduction as well.

That said, Shapeshifter's Chain is my go to tanking mythic, plus Tormentor (required) and usually Brands of Imperium for the group shield. It handles most content easily, though it will be getting a lot more janky and difficult to run with the next patch and the upcoming nerf to Tormentor.

Remove the requirement to cast Carnage after Pounce (just apply it on the Pounce damage) so Pounce can be used as a proper gap closer and it might be workable but otherwise there's a de facto 2 second cooldown on taunting for werewolves coming soon.
