Proposal: Mixing armor types

Wouldnt it be great if we could have 2 different styles on each shoulder, arm and feet? Or have only 1 piece of gloves/shoulders or shoes visible like with monster sets? This would immensely increase the freedom of choice we already have with the outfit system

It's not something I'd want, but I assume it would be popular based on the number of games where armour pieces are asymmetric.

The only game I can think of which did (a version of) what you're proposing is Morrowind, where you have right glove, left glove, right pauldron, left pauldron etc. as seperate items so you can equip 2 different styles or just one and not the other. Although the downside of only equipping one is it's not cosmetic, you're actually short an armour piece if you do that.

But a lot of games do have armour pieces (sometimes it seems to be the majority of the options) which don't match. You'll have an item called something like "bandit's gloves" and one hand will have a glove, but the other will have a bare hand and a bracer instead. I assume they wouldn't keep on doing that if it wasn't popular.

I'd like this idea, if anything from a character customization perspecive.

I'd love to make one of my arms clockwork style and the other short sleaved. The amount of work though that would go into this on ZOS end would be astronomical. I think this is the type of thing that would have to be done from the get go.

Would this be a hard thing to code?

    In general, not particularly.

For a massive live game that already has well-established gear and combat systems revolving around it and has tens of millions of database entries for player inventories and thousands upon thousands of entries for already established item sets and a rendering system that doesn't account for mismatched limbs? Do I even need to say it?
