Hi All,

I have a question relating to a performance issue I have on ESO. A quick summary of the bug is that roughly only 1 in every 3 skills I cast in combat actually works, the rest don't go off even though I see my skill get highlighted as if I have pressed it. This didn't used to happen to me.

My questions are;
If my internet metrics are completely normal and all my other games perform fine, is it an issue at ZOS's end?
Can you have account specific issues with this sort of thing? I'm thinking specifically with this that it's adding extra security levels for my information or that somehow my account or my connection to their servers is somehow broken?

I currently cannot play this game and I'd love to be able to. I've tried *absolutely* everything apart from creating a new Xbox account.

Does anyone have any idea, no matter how farfetched, how I'd go about rectifying this issue?

Please help me!

Might be where you live - in Australia we generally have a poor connection to anything overseas, especially North America. I have a 3ms ping to servers in Australia but go 500ms upwards for overseas servers.

My characters freeze stance mid weapon swing, no damage numbers appear for several seconds and then they all appear at once. My ultimate can take 3 or 4 activations before it goes off, I can get stunned after activating a skill, causing the skill not to fire, etc. Being competitive in PVP is completely out of the question.

I think it's all because of the time it takes for my command to reach the server and what happens on the server in that time.

I moved to a PS5 in the last few weeks and while it has improved loading screen times, it does not fix the lag. I'm on Fibre Optics to the premises (FTTP), 55mbps download, 20mbps upload - but the poor international connection is completely out of my control.
    Australian on PS4 NA server.
    Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked this and my ping is absolutely fine, I live in the UK and play on the EU server, this has not been a problem for me before.

I have of course, experienced.lag and delay but that is generally when *everyone* has similar issues, whereas at the moment it is just me that seems to have this problem.

Have you contacted your ISP to discuss this problem with them? It could be an issue of them routing you to the EU server in a non-optimal configuration.

I haven't spoken to them directly although I did call up and went through an automated process which checks any issues with my line, and there were none.

Perhaps this is something I could pursue further. What do you mean by non-optimal configuration?

You're on console, which changes things quite a bit. You don't have to deal with addons, custom UI, or a corrupt install.

This sounds more like a latency or packet loss issue either on your end or on the console server's end.

My packet loss is 0, I have checked this numerous times =/

Regarding the console server's end, is that Microsoft or ZOS infrastructure and do you know of any way to amend/fix it?

ISPs aren't always particularly reliable as to routing. It's somewhat dependent on the quality of employees (at least here in the states - and believe me, most of EU, except maybe Germany as a German friend has said to me, has far better internet especially for those of us in rural areas).

Years back, when the only connection I had was dialup, I had serious issues getting connected and staying connected while I was trying to get a client's websites up. I called up my ISP - the only ISP available back then in the late 90s, and told them what was happening and what it was doing to my business with my client's websites.

They spent quite a lot of time checking the routing setup - because I live in the back of beyond (40 miles from the nearest broadband) - and eventually finagled the routing so that I wasn't having the issues any more. They routed the main first ping node from somewhere in SoCal to level 3 Denver, and I had very little issues after that. Now I'm on satellite - and HughesNet is still routing my connection through level 3 Denver, and for a satellite connection, I have really no issues at all as long as I don't expect gig speeds from satellite (which I know better than of course)!

My suggestion would be that you ask your ISP to connect you to at least Tier 2 support (actually Tier 3 would be better) and see if you can get them to test different routings for you from where you live in the UK to - uh - Frankfurt, is it?

They will probably want you to do a tracert to double check packet loss and timeouts to begin with. Most ISPs do.

That's very insightful and a suggestion I will try tomorrow. I've marked it as 'no' just so I get other suggestions, but I really appreciate your reply.

My worry with it is that I do not suffer any net issues in any other area, but it's certainly an avenue I can explore.

Yeah, the fact that everything else is ticking along like clockwork tends to make one believe it's GOT to be on ZOS's end. Now, I do know people in UK who are not having this issue - or at least not right now.

Good luck. Hope they can help you out somehow. If all else fails try a VPN?

Thank you mate and yeah, VPN is another option I could try. Bit of a last resort I guess, along with creating a new account. But I can wait and see what other suggestions there are and follow up the ones that have been out forward so far, so it's better than where I was at which is trying to play the game but being miserable because it doesn't work how it should.

If you’re doing combat heavy activities like PvP and trials, this is common in my experience. Sometimes you can actually see the ability button on your bar get depressed but the skill never starts counting down.

Also, skills are often greyed out so you can’t even activate them. Usually that is a targeting issue for me, it seems to affect skills that are not aoes, I don’t know if it is position desync or what.

Yeah pretty much just Cyrodiil but it is literally impossible to compete when you can't cast skills properly. I'll do a barswap cancel and then realise the skill didn't go off so have to go back and press it 4 times and the cycle repeats itself for everything. It does it for aoe and defensive skills like heals and runes etc, as well as all of my offensive skills.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's related to Xbox troubleshooting.

    Thank you for your understanding

I initially logged a ticket through the game, but not via the link you provided in my DMs as I cannot log into that for whatever reason.

Nightmare. I need to speak directly to technical support even if for 5 minutes lol.

If you run a wifi connection to your router try connecting an ethernet cable instead. Solved most of my disconnects and similar issues. I run a 1st gen xbox one (before cloud storage was free and limited and made you confirm double saves every time you traveled thru a gate or to a wayshrine in a different zone). I actually had no problems with wifi, until we became a multi-console household with both systems in the same room.

Yeah tried this. Tried it all lol, still does it. I've resorted to just PvE healing to get.my ESO fix but it's so boring, especially with no extra content. Just wanna PvP but it's unplayable, can't do anything when you want or need to, sucks!
