ESO+ Trials Should Extend, Not Overlap!

IMO, players that pay for a subscription before an ESO+ Trial should have their time extended, rather than have it wasted by an overlap.

Free ESO+, assuming it ever happens again, is an advertising/promo designed to generate sales for ESO+. Giving the service away for 5 days or whatever time it lasts in do way harms those who pay for the service. The paid ESO+ subscribers are not damaged by the promo.

Regardless of “harm” it yields no benefit to players already subscribed.

If ESO+ trials were exclusively promotional, then users that have already had a free trial would be ineligible for another, as they have already “tried” the service.

In the past I've taken full advantage of the trial, and it's encouraged me to take out ESO+ when I would have survived without it. But I would never buy it for the whole year because there isn't that much of a benefit for me. I'm used to playing without it.

How is this a large ask? 😂

ESO+ has already lost value due to the 3rd and 4th quarter content cadence changes of last year, changes that Matt Firor was more than happy with in the yearly letter.

Knowing when ESO+ Free Trials are coming around I should just abstain from Subscribing and that’s the solution here?

Did ESO+ lose its value with the One Tamriel and Homestead updates (October 2016 & February 2017 respectively) as well?

Your issue is with ZOS. Please don't advocate for the removal of something that some players benefit from because you feel it cheapens a service you pay for. Maybe send a customer support ticket to ZOS about it.

    This is what I do.

Mind, I don’t sub that often, so for me it’s a matter of holding out for a few extra weeks and putting off things that will clutter the inventory until then. I can absolutely see being annoyed for those of you who sub 24/7 - there at lease used to be extra free goodies for the existing subs when the free trials rolled around.

    How do they do that?

They extend by 5 days, but what about Crowns? Adding 5 days means fewer Crowns from ESO Plus for the year. They give everyone ~275 Crowns?

But wait, the free trial people don't get Crowns and they don't get to take advantage of ESO Plus store deals. They aren't really getting ESO Plus at all. They are getting some of the benefits for a few days, but not all of them.

In the end, if the the player paid for X days of ESO Plus, they are getting X days of ESO Plus. There is no need to do anything. They are getting exactly what they paid for.

According to UESP, the free trial version of ESO+ and the paid version are a little different. The free trial version doesn’t grant you access to the ESO+ deals in the crown store, for instance.

That isn’t the goal, but was simply used to point out a contradiction.

ESO is the only product I’ve played where a “trial” can be tried multiple times, and that’s not a problem, I just feel it should be renamed to something like “ESO+ Free Days,” and should result in an extension of your service if you pay for it.

I get the OP's request and I have definitely felt annoyed when there's a free trial overlapping with my sub... particularly a couple of times when I had just renewed the sub a few days earlier, lol. It's not that big of a deal for me, but at the same time it does make me feel a little undervalued as a regular subscriber.

But... I'm not really sure I would want my ESO+ extended like suggested, because it would probably alter my billing date (I sub monthly or for periods shorter than 1 year, so that I can take breaks from Plus or from the game sometimes), and it could mess up the delivery of crowns as mentioned, potentially resulting in fewer crowns per year for a regular subscriber. I like the idea on one level, but I feel like it has "logistical nightmare" written all over it too.

I'd personally rather see Plus members get a special gift or something during the free trial.

EDIT: Or maybe the "free days" could be kept and would only be added once one's current sub expires and isn't renewed, maybe that would resolve some of the logistics problems.

Back in the day already subbed people were getting Crates. This can return.
