You should be able to get plus directly through the Zenimax store. I have steam but get most of the chapters and ESO + directly through the store.
Not sure if epic is handled differently.

You can, I checked, but the player does not "trust" ZoS with their credit card. If they wanted a work around, there's always Paypal payments.
I find it interesting that when people claim the game is dying because the Steam charts show a declining population, they only ever relate to that by reference to the direct ZOS installations. None of them ever refers to the separate growth in the population as a result of the Epic situation. They refer, of course, to the apparent reduction of players seen in the game especially on console, but that is significantly affected by instancing, including the launch of Endless Archive, as well as the alleged demise of the minority interest in ESO that is PvP. That is in no way to criticise PvP, indeed it is the PvPers themselves who lead the claim that PvP in ESO is dead.
Some players will often swear by the evidence of the Steam figures, but do we have any credible information as to the evidence of the Epic figures? There seems to be a complete silence in that respect.

You create a paypal account and use paypal to pay for your ESO+ subscription, and conflicts or issues are handled through them. Paypal keeps your details and pays out.
It's literally an option ZoS gives you so it's not so hard.

what has that got to do with buying eso plus from epic or linking a steam account and buying it through steam?

My issue with Epic is it does not support most other controllers other than xbox. I hate the xbox controller with how sensitive the buttons are and its wide grips in small hands makes it difficult to hold onto for long periods of time. If you add Epic Games launcher as a steam game library, it will launch Epic into Big Picture Mode which then lets you use other controllers. I favor the PS4 controller for the slender grips and uniformity in the joysticks.
I started ESO on Steam back in 2018 I think. At that time, Steam was constantly lagging behind when it came to updates and patches, so I constantly ran into problems. Eventually, I decided to detach my Steam account from ESO and never had any problems since then.
It's possible that Steam somehow managed to work around the issues they used to have back then, I don't know. But at least I wanted to mention it before you are making decisions.

They indicated they do not trust Zenimax with their card info. Fair point but I doubt Epic or Steam is any more secure.
