I started in Beta as a NB and played him for years as my main, but couldn't get good no matter how much I tried. So I rolled a sorc and never looked back (main is a stamsorc, but I have a magsorc that I play a lot).

My completionist quester is a nightblade, because of the stealth advantages. He was my first ESO character, originally more of an archer/scout than a nightblade.

However, his build is lousy and I use my sorcerer for harder content.

My first character is always a wizard, mage, or as close as I can get. I'm not a particularly an Altaholic, and ESO makes it easy to play with one character. I do have several characters at the level cap (including a second Sorcerer), but they get little use beyond doing crafting writs.

My main is now just a crafter and survey collector. He is not viable any longer, not needed for raid compositions and only cannon fodder in PVP. I even can't pull high numbers on the raid dummy anymore because I can't weave properly due to arcanists dumbing down rotations.

Honestly I wish I could change it to a DK, but I'm not willing to give up all of my game achievements and crafting to change characters so I suffer a class I don't enjoy.

Well I don't exactly have one 'main' character, but there are a few I play more often than others because their set up is just better for what I'm doing. I tend to use my Sorcerers and Nightblades most, depending on what I want to do. Often I don't want to take the time to fight everything along the way to my goal, so I go with nightblade and just sneak past so I'm not wasting time on unimportant fights. I usually play solo, so I also often go with Sorcerer so the summons can provide distraction and not everything is focused on me.

I have three accounts because I'm an altaholic, letseee.... who do I play most?
1st EU old wizard sorcerer, leafy woodland explorer nightblade (crafter), princess of the woods warden
1st NA clockwork electric sorcerer (crafter), starry sorceress, antiquarian vampire nightblade
2nd EU icy mage nightblade (crafter), vampire fire mage nightblade, purpley purple princess sorcerer
2nd NA orc princess nightblade (crafter), purple pretty boy sorcerer, bosmer bow-staff experiment warden
3rd EU spunky redhead archer warden (crafter), icy summoner sorcerer
3rd NA extremely golden templar, alik'r nomad nightblade (crafter)

I'd say my favourite classes are Sorcerer - for all the purple, and Templar and Warden because I love their healing, but... in practice I don't find those characters suit my needs as often. I love creating characters but focus on their Look or story more than their function game-wise and I loove my leafy foresty wardens. I'm very excited about the greeness of the arcanists though and looking forward to leveling those new characters and figuring out how I like playing them.

I don't really have a "main" anymore. I've finished all the solo stuff with 3 classes, so my "main" is just whatever I create for the next playthru - right now that's a Dragonknight.

Easily my MagDK. I love making fire mages, especially if they're dragon themed. Aslo the term Dragon knight implies they're meant to be played like knights and I really enjoyed making her into a flaming wizard who's dominion is fire and dragons.
    I also have 3 DK's: my main, a stamDK, and a vampireDK.

After DK the classes I enjoy the most are Necro and Arcanist.

I spend a fair amount of time on my sorcerer and have a vampire thief NB who's stats are all pushed towards speed (for funsies)

The class I struggle with the most and get no enjoyment from is Templar. I don't know why this is.

    Sorcerer
I'm genuinely surprised the majority of voters selected sorcerer as their main. I feel like the class has been languishing for quite some time now.
There's just weird issues like Lightning Staves no longer benefiting the majority of the Stormcalling skill line and the primary DoT for that skill line has a majority of the damage hidden behind a synergy that does actually deal direct damage but your lightning staff doesn't benefit, recent updates creating areas in challenging content (Bastion Nymics, Endless Archive) that kill pets and the only other burst heal is tied to an ability with a 1 second cast time, and the Overload ult frequently getting stuck on.

There's probably even more issues, but these are issues I've noticed and I'm not even in a score pushing team or anything hardcore. If I could change my class, I'd probably make him a Dragonknight or Arcanist though.

I have other toons with higher dps but she is the most fun.

You described my situation to an absolute 'T'.

My very first character ever was a MagSorc but once I made my StamBlade she became my main character from that point on and I do EVERYTHING new on her first, even though my Sorc and Templar Healer are better suited for Dungeons and Trials.

With up to 20 characters per account, why only resort to a single main?

Your heart always stays true to your first main, where you had your first ESO fun experience.

Mine is MagNB, no matter how strong other classes are me and my swallow soul will prevail
My first character is also a magblade (Breton), even though I initially ran him as a stamblade because I had no idea what I was doing. I still have him as my master crafter, learning all new motifs, recipes, praxis, etc., but I never figured out how to use him in combat, so he's only a crafter.

I've made hundreds of alts in ten years. AWA ruined alts for me so I'm down to my Templar. But I'll never play anything else ever again even though they ruined jabs.

I have a full 20 characters, and I play them all.
But I still have a Main Character.
For trials I have a go to tank, a healer and several DD's. I then have a dedicated PVP character in each alliance. All others are set up and capable of doing daily quests, delves, dungeons, etc.

I would not have one 'main' character that I'd want to do everything on, too much messing about changing skills, gear, etc.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.
