Hi,

I would like to suggest the idea of being able to rent your house(s) to npc(s) for gold.

Please feel free to post what you think about this as well.

I’m not sure what the point would be or how it would improve gameplay or really add anything to the game…. But sure, why not? 🤷‍♀️

    @NeuroticPixels

Well, i personally have houses that i use only for teleporting to them for free.

But those houses are empty, with no furniture and any other use to them.

So i was thinking: "if i am not making use of these houses other than using them like wayshrines, perhaps i could rent them to other npcs for extra profit".

And that's when i had decided to post this suggestion.

Don't think we really need a passive gold income source, I got a lot of houses and would benefit greatly from it, so could easily understand how much extra gold that could generate into the economy.

Maybe if the NPC tenants pay in furniture/style mats instead of gold, that way people who genuinely want to do something with their house collection would get some use of their empty/complete ones and those not using their houses for anything more than a teleport point, could sell those mats on guild traders increasing supply for those that want to craft furniture.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Sure, I could see it being fun. Maybe let them offer you some tiny, randomly generated quests. Perhaps one tenant just wants a bit of shopping, maybe another got robbed. Perhaps one tenant has started a skooma lab and you can choose to either stitch them in or help throw the guards off their scent every once in awhile. Small little flavour things.

Edit: Fixed a typo. Don't think people would be wanting to rent a house to a *tent*, instead of a tenant

It would be fun but i think we would need more gold sinks actually. People would abuse passive gold incomes too hard, so the rent would need to be very low to not imbalance the economy.

I like the idea of using the houses for something other than wayshrining, but this would easily be abused by botters to generate ridiculous amounts of gold.

More gold sinks? Housing is a big enough one for me already.

I'm unsure what the intent is behind this request.

Is it to just have free gold sent to the player on a regular basis?

Is it to roleplay as a landlord? If it's to roleplay, then would the landlord lose the ability to port into the house? Does the landlord receive random repair bills that they must pay? When I rent a house, the landlord loses free access to the house. When I rent a house I call the landlord for them to deal with repair problems. How far would this roleplay go?

Oh, 'npc.' Thought you meant players. [snip]

    [edited for baiting]

...ok since all meaning of this comment is now missing, for context I thought the intent of the original post was to charge a fee for *players* to visit your house, which seemed odd and anti-social.

After re-reading the OP and realizing it was talking about passive income from NPC's, that seems impractical for balancing purposes. Generally you see passive income generation through rent in games with minimal player interpersonal interaction like Fable; doing so on the scale of an mmo would quickly render gold worthless and kickstart a massive inflation snowball.

Im not sure if people would be overwhelmed with this feature but..

Could be a great way for Zos to sell ingame gold for crowns, buy a house with crowns and let a npc rent it that pays the player in gold lol

NPCs renting doesn’t make sense to me but it’d be nice to see something like EHT community where people can add their houses to a list for anyone to join.

I think the opposite. I have loads of furniture from scying but no houses to put them in so they are clogging up my characters' inventory/bank. Same with style materials as I don't have ESO+ and don't do much trading.

I need more money so I would love to have my existing houses make me some money so I can afford a few larger houses to keep all my furniture in.
