That esoteric greaves lead

It's time to talk about that esoteric greaves lead. Or talk about it again, IDK. Anyway, it's worthy of a heartfelt whinge.

I don't mind a grindy lead. I didn't even mind the Shadowfen alchemy nodes saga, there was a weird kind of cameraderie with everyone stood there all day jealously nursing their node waiting for the respawns. Zone chat was full of jealous murmurs when someone got lucky and good-natured attempts at collaboration with players letting each other check opened nodes (I never did work out if that worked or not). Anyway. It was fine. Same with other grindy leads. They can be frustrating, but mostly they're fine.

Even the lead that drops from Graven Deep secret bosses was ok, because the first one is easy to solo. It took me about 20 runs, but it was just a grind.

But the esoteric greaves lead that drops from Coral Aerie is not fine. I don't mind it dropping from a DLC dungeon, I don't mind it dropping from a secret boss. But to have it drop *only* from a secret boss that only appears after the activity is complete, and with a terrible drop rate, sucks. I guess you did it to get us all to go back and re-play the secrets that we played through once, but actually it doesn't give me that warm glow of rediscovering content, it just makes me feel awkward every time because farming it essentially involves begging pugs to stay around after they've done what is probably a longer-than-they-hoped daily random to clear a boss they don't care about. It's even worse because nobody even wants the greaves to use them, because it's such a sub-optimal mythic for pretty much everything. All anyone wants it for is the Savior of the Telvanni Peninsula achievement and the mount.

Make it drop from the shield guardian before the final boss - fine. Give it a chance to drop from any of the secret bosses - fine. Even leave it dropping from Z'Baza but give it something like a 50% drop rate, so you get to rediscover the old sload but don't have the endless chore of pleading with randoms. It's not as if it's practicable to farm with a bunch of friends who all want it, because as soon as someone gets the lead they'll drop out. Perhaps alternatively you could make it so that either it doesn't drop for anyone in the dungeon group or it drops for everyone?

Anyway, it's probably too late for this one. You're not very quick to address problems with old content. I'll just keep grinding, and hating the dungeon a little more every run, and end up never, ever going back to it again once I get the drop. But please bear the request in mind when thinking of other lead sources in future.

These leads from group dungeons are flat out awful. I have been stuck on the Mora's Whisper's lead from ICP for months now, because the only time anyone wants to run that dungeon with any regularity is when it is an Undaunted pledge. And I like running trials and dungeons! But leads like these make me loathe certain dungeons.

The Esoteric Greaves lead is a special kind of awful. An optional boss that requires you to beat 3 other optional bosses in addition to the 3 main bosses, in a dungeon full of gear that nobody is farming regularly. Yeesh. That lead is definitely worse than the previous champion: the DSA Death Dealer's Fete lead.

Leads that require you to find a group willing to put in the time to run the content with you should have an automatic drop rate. Especially ones that are long, like this or DSA.

Yeah, this lead is awful...they've really dropped the ball on some leads.

I ran this dungeon with some guildies for the lead. I admit I was very lucky and got it quick. One of the others was not so lucky and it took way more runs. A ridiculous amount and I know I lost count as the runs and weeks increased. We duoed it a lot when there was a shortage of others after the lead. I like that dungeon because I can pet the baby gryphons, but at one point I was starting to wonder if I was a bad luck charm for my guildie.

He was delighted when he got it the other week so he would never have to enter the dungeon again. Although it then popped up as a random within days and so making him run it yet again.

Anyway maybe the new group finder will help find other lead hunters? I have not really looked at it yet but have a bunch of leads I am after from sloggy, long, unpopular dungeons and I was going to take a look at that option for when the guild is quiet.

This one is soloable for what it's worth (having a companion helps at least if not a friend to join you). Heavy attack sorc build and arcanist just keep beaming build work just fine.

Most are, but its the unnecessary grind. Its one thing to tie monster motifs to dungeon runs and make the drop rate low. I get that, those things sell for a lot of gold and its a cosmetic trophy. But tying a lead to a mythic that a lot of players want, and when you get it, absolutely improves your build is another thing. Death Dealers' Fete, Mora's Whispers, these greaves, and the Velothi amulet are all good examples of such a mythic.

Again, I love dungeons and trials and do not need an excuse to run these multiple times. Except when it becomes tedium, like my ongoing ICP grind. Even the lockbox/treasure map leads are more defensible than these.

The ONLY mythic item I’ve not gotten so far for this very reason.
