Master's 2H stamsorc has worse single-target damage than magplar, but matches it in AOE damage and is much tankier. Is magplar good enough for the most demanding world bosses, such as the Unfinished Dolmen in Wrothgar? With the right build maybe, but I've always felt Brawlersorc outclasses it for really hard content. To sum up Brawlersorc: For overland mobs it's as good as anything, because they die so easily. For bosses it's slow, but very comfortable. For the toughest content it outperforms every other build I play, except where you absolutely positively must be ranged. Here's my Arcanist, alone in vet Cauldron. I'm not sure how good this class really is for solo play, since the Fatecarver channel is substantially longer than even a heavy attack. You can't block, dodge or bash while beaming. It's interesting that all the above-recommended build types, Arcanist, heavy attack builds, templars, use channeled attacks and have the same drawback. I don't necessarily disagree with those recommendations, but Brawlersorc avoids that problem and can, therefore, solo some content better than those builds. That said, at the end of the day it's about knowing and dancing around the mechanics. Arcanist has so much easy damage it's possible to build tanky, as I have done here, and not lose too much of it. This mitigates the problem of being stuck in the beam to some degree. Note I'm using Hexos Ward, a shielding set. Arcanist has it's own shielding skills, but I'm not a fan of active shielding skills that don't do damage, and that consume valuabe "Fatecarver" crux, in solo play. Build is at the end:

I should add that both of these builds were designed to fulfil a dual role as solo and group tank / carry builds, hence they include taunt skills or sets. The stamsorc is extensively tested in that role and will solo / carry any group up to non-DLC hard mode level. One of the ideas was to maximise resistances. I ultimately decided to retain Tormentor for solo play, because the resistances carry over to the front bar. This has felt useful for the hardest content I have tried to solo, such as the Shipwright's boss shown in the video. However for mere world bosses, you don't really need that and could trim the build for more damage, for example by back-barring Wretched Vitality and going for weapon / spell damage enchants on the jewelry, or by wearing a crit set and, say, back-barring a Maelstrom 2H. Switching to a sustain or damage race, instead of Nord, would likely also help the build in solo play where it doesn't have to operate like a tank and hold bosses in one place.

P.S. While I like stamsorc for Brawler builds, due to the physical damage passives, Crit Surge healing, and Dark Deal sustain, you can make that work on any class. I don't play Necro, but believe it's issues include DOTs being ground-based and taking a lot of time to apply and ramp up, whereas a lot of fights nowadays are mobile, putting Necro at a disadvantage. I would say none of that matters terribly for overland, not even for world bosses, since those are simply not that hard. Play your Necro, if you like it. In the worst case, a weapon-skill approach, such as using Master's 2H / Brawler, will transform anything into a viable build.
