Question about magicka sorcerer, I should be using light armor right?

kougaSarutobi
I'm using Order's Wrath and mother's sorrow, the reason I'm using light armor is because of the light armor skill line which a passive related to magicka recovery, I'm I wrong about this?

Also I"m cp 269 and my spell damage is 3306 only and magicka recovery is 1369, without any buffs from food , potion and skills, is 3300 spell damage ok or not?

This is for PVE.

Thanks

it does certainly help sustain a bit more to use light armor on mag build or medium armor on stam build

statwise that sounds like its fine, your actually probably missing recovery and dmg from the low cp right now though

what enchants/traits do you have on your jewelry?

I have on all armor increased magicka, and all 3 jewellery magicka recovery.

As for traits tbh I didnt care because I didnt have much gold so I took the cheapest I could get which all have the divine trait and one armor has training trait, in the future when I make more gold I will buy golden armor. Which traits do u recommend?

    Thanks
  • kougaSarutobi
by the way the armor and jewellery are purple armor.

for armor generally you do want divines trait

jewelry you usually want bloodthirsty with dmg enchantments (for you, you would do the one which has weapon/spell dmg with a small amount of mag recovery)

    purple quality is generally fine

switching up your enchants will reduce recovery a little bit, but you will gain about 1500 more dmg, the red cp node to gain resources on kill is a decent way to help sustain if your running solo content

All medium is the meta for mag and stam dps in PvE, however I agree you should go for light armor for the time being. Light armor not only gives you magicka sustain but also penetration, so you don’t have the worry as much about either of those things. If you get into mid/end game then maybe you can consider medium, but tbh I run 1 pc medium 6 piece light on my mag warden.

on my sorc in mag mode i use light, on stam mode i use medium.
    same character different build slots.
medium on magica mode is crap because you can't regen magica fast enough.

Slimecraw helmet. I use double arena weapons so I can’t use 2 pieces of a monster set, only one. Slimecraw is the go-to in that kind of situation.

I'd have a cheap setup with training armor no matter what, for a big increase in how fast CP come in. It's probably OK to use it for most overland content.

Would you use 1 medium if you didn't have the Undaunted Mettle passive at a very high level?

I’m not good at math so I cannot give you an answer on if it’s the best course of action, but yes. I think it’s for the crit % and spell damage.

I thought that Infused with +damage for jewelry was still better, at least for PvP. Bloodthirsty was calculated to only be more effective than Infused when the enemy is below 15% health, while infused gave a better advantage for enemies above 70% health. Anything below 50% will be easier already with executes.

For bosses, bloodthirsty may be more effective.

For PvP and mobs, Infused may be more effective. This is just my experience though and research from like... 1.5 years ago. And since damage enchants got boosts to regen also, Infused is a tad nicer since then.

Actually no. ALL DPS characters who want to maximize their DPS need to wear medium armor, and the reason is you get extra crit damage (2% per piece of medium armor) and extra weapon/spell damage (also 2% per piece of armor), where light armor only increases your penetration and critical chance stat.

Now, this assumes you are running with a tank who can strip off ~ 14-15k armor, because it is difficult to get more than 3-4K penetration in medium armor. But thanks to hybridization, optimized DPS will almost always wear at least 5 pieces of medium armor, maybe more depending on sets/weapon traits/builds.

Sound boring? Yeah, I hate it too. But tis the game we have right now. # undo hybridization.

For solo mag char I would do 5 or 6 light and the rest medium. Typically I think a lot of the people asking questions in here are solo players.

L or M depends on what content you're doing sub 50 - solo, or group, overland or dungeon, etc - and what penetration you have for that content. in general, if you have sufficient penetration then M armor will give an edge for dps. if you're lacking penetration, then wearing L is an easy way to up your penetration. shoot for overland/delve 9.1k penetration, or 18.2k for dungeons and trials. be sure to consider the penetration that your groupmates or companion can bring.

and honestly, do not bother to improve your armor beyond blue until after lvl 50, CP 160 - it's a waste of mats. save them (esp. gold) for lvl 50 cp160.
