Scroll Quest RNG

I don't understand why the RNG is so crazy in this game.

For example, in Cyrodiil. There are only 2 scrolls left to take. Chim and Ghartok. Someone has picked up Chim, and you try to pick up the quest. So out of two scroll quests, you would think you have a 50% chance of getting it, right? NOOOOOOOO!!!! Try for the next 8 minutes, and over countless tries, I get only scroll of Ghartok quest.

Thanks for listening and letting me rant.

I don't think there is RNG involved, well not on every attempt that is.

When you go and ask for a scroll quest, the game uses RNG to figure out which one to dish out. But once it's generated, it's generated. So no matter how many times you come back and ask for it, well... it's already generated so that's the one on offer.

Based on personal experience, the way to get around this is to accept the wrong quest and abandon it, and the have another player interact with the quest giver between attempts. This seems to reset the RNG.

    So try this next time:

Go and ask for the quest - If you get the right one, then good, your done. Go back to playing.

If you get the wrong one, accept it and then go to quest journal and cancel it.

Wait for another player to interact with the quest giver. - Usually when someone has seized a scroll there are plenty of people fishing for the quest, so this step shouldn't be much of an issue.

Once you've seen someone else come up to the quest giver it's time to try again for a scroll quest.

Do note that there is still decent chance you will get the wrong one, even if there are only two available. It's fifty fifty after all. So you might still need to try several times to get the one you want.

Also note that this is based on personal experience, not like I've seen the code or anything. But this does work for me, and I generally have no problems with forcing the game to generate the one I want. It may take several attempts, and is kinda annoying, but it works for me and might work for you too.

Why does it have to be so complicated? We should not have to do x,y,z just to get a simple scroll quest. 50% chance of getting it, it should:

    1. Give us something really random, instead of a stuck RNG as Hymzir described, or
    2. Make it smarter. If X scroll is on the move, give us that scroll quest. If X and Y are on the move, then give priority to those scrolls rather than those that are not on the move.

It's about time we got some fixes for this.

You used to be able to just abandon the quest and randomly get another one without anyone’s help. You could just shuffle through all the scroll quests available until you got the right one but for whatever reason ZOS changed that.

I don’t even bother with scroll quests anymore unless it’s Whitestrake’s

I was able to abandon one scroll quest and get another one on my own recently, but it took several minutes of trying. The particular scroll quest changes after some period of time. We had the case where some guy slipped into one of our keeps and took an enemy scroll and I was trying to get the right quest.

It seems if both of your faction’s scrolls are missing it randomly switches between the two, but if it is an enemy scroll and your faction has theirs, then it randomly switches between all the other faction scroll quests.

Think all the Cyrodil quests has an cooldown on 4-5 minutes before it select another random objective who is valid like an keep has to be held by enemy to be captured.

And if you miss one or both of your scrolls only they are given as quests. If you have both, random enemy scrolls you have not put in an keep is selected.

Another benefit of being in an group is that you can share quests.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I lost count of how many times I tried to get the scroll quest. This is 1 out of 2 quests that could have been given to me.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it deals with quests.

    Thank you for your understanding

Hopefully moving posts around to the "correct category" will help to fix the problem.

yeah the scroll quests gravitate towards your own factions scrolls first if they are missing (because if they are missing, you cant actually capture the enemy scrolls in the first place so it makes no sense to give an enemy scroll quest when you cant capture it)
