Yes, it does matter, the question is whether or not it matters enough for what you want to do in game.
If you intend to go score pushing then go Dunmer or Altmer (altmer only if you know you are going to stack max magicka). For most of other PvE things, it tends to not matter enough, but you will save yourself a lot of frustration by using an adequate race for your role if you are doing vet trial hardmodes.
I am not doing either of those, so it does not matter enough to me.

Difference is some percentage, here 5% is high, If you use an relevant race as in one of the magic or hybrid races its more like 2%. So if you do 100K dps on a Altmer magsorc it would be 98 on a Khajiit and 95 on an Bosmer.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If you're planning on pushing scores, then it does matter.
If you want to complete all contents, then it is better to play the race that you prefer in terms of aesthetics and lore. You will spend a lot of time on this character.
If you don't care much about races and want to minimize frustrations and micro-management, go for a sustain race (Breton, Imperial, Redguard, Bosmer)

Yes*, but no. Play what and who you want; make a bosmer magicka dps. Make a dunmer tank. Have fun.
Racial bonuses, by definition, matter. 1-2% dps increase could mean the difference between 1st or 2nd place in timed weekly trials. What it won't do is make you a better player with honed instinct, learn the mechanics, fill out your gear, or create a rotation.

If you're not trying to wring every drop out of the lemon, don't worry about it even a little bit. There's a LOT more you can do to help yourself with way more tangible effect.

    Out of curiosity,
Is a kahjiit stamina templar good for dps in endgame content?

Kind of, but it really is only for scorepushing or getting the highest possible parse. Some races, such as breton or khajiit, have noticeable differences. Others you don’t notice as much. As I’m not in the scorepushing community, I’ve never seen anyone be blocked from content at any level based on their race.

Khajiit is fine, my main DPS is a khajiit. Just have to worry about crit % hitting the cap. Templar is one of the “dead” classes but I know like two people who still play templar and they do good damage. So, stamplar isn’t good persay but it’s still fine to use.

I'm not into the rankings and score pushing either. I'm not really a competitive person when it comes to MMORPG type of games.

If there are players who block other players from doing content in the game based on their character's race (species?), wouldn't that be discrim---um um uh "not nice" .. ? 😳. That's probably why players don't block others from doing content in game based on those reasons.

Also stamina build melee dps kahjiit templar is the only level 50 main character I got.

Endgamers just aren’t as exclusionary as they’re made out to be. Can use any race, any class, even off-meta builds… as long as you do enough damage as a DPS, don’t die as a tank, and have good uptimes as a healer, that’s all that matters. Even if one can’t do those things, people will help them get there.
Only content you wouldn’t be able to do on a melee stamplar is AS probably, just because range is incredibly useful. But, could just use a bow in there on the same character. Maybe Xalvakka HM too, I’ve not gotten there myself but I’ve heard the DPS check cuts it close so that may be a DK-stacking situation.

my first vAS+2 clear was on a mostly melee stamplar that is an argonian lol (2h front, bow back)

doable, but definitely not as easy as a full range build, it does help that olms hitbox is insanely huge though

Tagline of the game: Any class, ANY RACE, any role. The only thing that matters when it comes to race in pve/PvP content are the passives, and that is entirely up to you and how you play. Each race has something different and often what one race has works better for some people and less for others. It's about how YOU play and what works best for YOU. The passives are such small bonuses and contribute to less than 1% of your overall build.

In essence, pick what you enjoy.

Altmer pet sorc will be great. Have a look at the racial passives to see if they help our hinder what you want your build to do. Usually there are several races that are very close to being as good as one another for a class. There will be some that are of no help. eg. one that has stam boosting racial passives and you are making a mag character.

The tag line of "Any class, any race, any role" isn't a guarantee that you'll be able to do best in any content. As some content requires an optimised TEAM effort, sometimes this will mean running something that is best for the team if that is the content you want to do.

Also if you want to clear vAS+2, your altmer pet sorc will be great. I'd like a dollar for every person who has wanted to do vAS and turned up with their stam character and then died the most and been out dps'd by the healers. If you're proficient with the mechs, and have enough pen without expecting the supports to provide extra just for you, then bring your melee stam character, but until then please don't be selfish and inflict this build on your team members.

While I have no doubt that if you look hard enough you'll find a super-sweaty progression guild that requires all the optimal race/sets/food/etc, as others have said most will only care that you hit DPS benchmarks for certain content or are willing to work towards them. Pick the race you want and give it a go. You can always race change or roll a new alt if you change your mind later.
