They're account-wide. All of your characters can use any house you own.

Yes something else would be weird. Note that you can get inn rooms for a few thousand gold some even free.
Elsweyr has an large house as an quest reward.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    Is furniture also account-wide?

Yes. If you buy a furnished house you can move pieces of furniture to other homes you own, but not sell them. Things you make yourself are not bound, and you can place them in any of your homes, or give them to other players.

Or attempt to sell them on a guild trader or in chat.

Also if you buy a house unfurnished with gold, it still comes with a certain amount of furnishings, these are not bound and can be traded/sold.

There are a few of these items that are quite valuable because they cannot be crafted, brought from NPC's etc and in a couple of cases can be sold for more than the house actually costs!

They're actually server-bound. Your NA characters cannot use your EU houses and vice versa. But all your characters on that server can use them.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it deals with housing.

    Thank you for your understanding

Just to make sure - can you leave equipment in your house and store it there PERMANENTLY, e.g. in boxes or cupboards, or will it disappear after a while like in some other RPGs (e.g. Might and Magic 6)? :-)

Yes, you can leave furnishings in there permanently. I have a large house I use solely for storing pieces of furniture I no longer use or want at present. For storing other items in your house, see this.

There are a handful of special-purpose storage containers (they look like cross between a treasure chest and a piece of luggage). You can store a limited number of inventory items in them permanently. If you acquire them all, I think it is 270 extra slots of storage? I don't believe these are per house, though. You can put a storage container in multiple houses, but I think they have shared storage. Kind of like how you can go to any bank in any city and they all have the same stored items you put in your bank.

However, normal furniture items likes cabinets and nightstands and dressers and so on are not interactive. You can't put anything in them.
