With all the respect, i fully disagree.
Removing crates would be an awfull idea.
Many players can't afford crownstore items, but are able to afford crown crate items via twitch or endeavor farm.
This whole idea would ruin the game for many and i see no need for that.
(Especially with gifting disabled and gold to crown trades not being safe unfurtunaly)

Overwatch is apparently on a player decline also because of removing crates and selling skins at expensive prices.

Please don't do something like this. Crates are fine.

And yes i also fully disagree with battlepass systems on eso.

Crown Crates are gambling. In any gambling situation you are spending more in the long run (on average) than you would be otherwise. That's just math. It's how it works. It's how it's designed to work.

The house always wins in the long run.

It really depends on the prices being charged and the odds. Overwatch 1 weighted the cosmetics so that you did not get duplicates of the same color unless you owned every thing in that tier. On average you got 1 legendary in every 20 or so loot boxes in OW1. This was about 20 bucks. In addition, you got a bunch of cosmetics for the 3 lower tiers including several skins. Now, they charge 20 bucks for 1 skin and a small amount of other collectables, none of which are other skins.

So, loot boxes in Overwatch 1 were cheaper than buying the skin directly in Overwatch 2.

Given what Elder Scrolls Online charges for houses, I could easily imagine the same could end up true for apex/radiant apex rewards.

Well that certainly ain't what's happening over here, lol.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

You don't pay unless you play... and paying/playing don't guarantee winning.

That's what people say about lotto, keno, gambling in casinos etc. But those of us who've taken several college level statistic courses understand that the only way to win in these situations is not to play.

I enjoy crates because I'm usually interested in a lot of the low and mid-tier items. I can open a pack of crates and get most of what I want and then buy the rest with the gems I got from duplicates and converting junk. I like that I can also get extra stuff I might use later and items I might be on the fence about at the moment but find useful down the road. As long as I don't go into it with my heart set on an apex item or radiant apex mount, I feel sufficiently entertained and not cheated. Occasionally I will get a lucky crate with an apex mount, which is nice, but I'm mainly just opening the crates to have fun and get gems to buy items from the blue, purple, and gold tiers. If I one day find a rare crate mount that I really want, I'll use Seals of Endeavors to buy it. I typically prefer items not to be sold directly in the crown shop because they are usually overpriced there and are only available for a very limited time. I'd rather buy a pack of 15 crates and get multiple collectibles and a pool of gems to use to buy what I want than spend the same amount of crowns on a single assistant with a new skin or a multi-rider mount.

There is secondary aspect of the Crown Crates, and that is their collection of items into seasons of availability. You can only spend your Seals of Endeavor when the item you want is “in season”, meaning that the crates that contain them are on offer. The more kinds of crates, the longer the gaps in availability, or the shorter the periods they’re on offer.

If I want a specific skin or mount, that is in a crate, I have to wait a couple of years, and hope I don’t blink when it pops up. I caught the Snow bear after only three years, but now there’s a skin I want. They do the same thing with individual items, but those are easier to see coming via the Crown Store Showcase. Crates add a layer of stealth to the process.

^ You know, they announce returning crates in the showcase as well.

I agree, however, that it would be nice if we didn't have to wait as long for crates to return (or any returning items for that matter).

My point was that you know the crate is coming, but have to do another search to discover the contents. Unless you know what is in the crates in advance, which only works for returning ones, the showcase does not tell you.

as much as I hate the long wait for the nightfall crate to make a return, I also know Zos never changes either and they will always use the concept of FOMO no matter what.

I'd much rather they did away with crown crate gambling. A model where we just buy what we want from the store would be far more fair and it wouldn't violate the gambling laws in some countries.
