Mourning Dew drops?

  • ZOS_Hadeostry
    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic, as it's about a recipe drop.

    Thank you for your understanding

I know this is a necroed thread but I'm glad it was, because I've been wondering about Mourning Dew myself. In particular, I'm wondering if it drops at certain times of the day-- evening, night, morning, whatever. I mean it wouldn't make a lot of sense for it to drop at high noon. Has anyone tried farming nodes at specific times of day to see if it's more likely to drop then?

shouldn't make any difference. there once also was the rumor that infectious bloodfiends and werewolves spawn at midnight of a new moon and full moon respectively but that also never turned out to be true. they don't do things that are based around in-game time of day

I've noticed that werewolves (the kind that can infect you) do seem to spawn at night and despawn at dawn, at least the ones I was watching despawned when the sun came up-- but the phase of the moon didn't seem to matter like I'd heard.

As far as Mourning Dew, I've also wondered (because of its name) if it tends to spawn more often around areas where there are graves or those crescent-shaped memorial stones (or whatever they are). It would be interesting to get some actual solid data which might give clues to any patterns regarding time and place.

ok. yes, that is true. daytime does matter for that one. I just meant that the moon phase doesn't matter. but no, it really shouldn't have an impact. it's basically the same as aetherial dust. all you need is to be in the right zone and nothing else matters.

it's just ridiculous. what's the point of having such items in the game if you may not even be able to acquire any significant amount before it becomes obsolete.

As long as you can theoretically acquire the recipes and ingredients in-game, then no one can declare the easy to obtain Crown Store versions (Alliance War Skill 50%, 100%, and 150% XP scrolls) as being "pay to win."

yep that is main reason it is so rare, so more are likely to buy the boosts on crown store

If I think about how many crown experience scrolls I get from daily rewards, it is absolutely ridiculous how rare these ingredients are to find. sure, Psijic Ambrosia is fine but I still get Grand Gold Coast experience scrolls far more often than Aetherial dust. And the War Tortes should be beholden to the same standard since they are exactly the same, just for a different experience type.

Not to derail the thread more, but that was the case, long ago when the game launched. WWs would spawn on the full moon, vamps on the new moon in game. They changed it when people would camp spawns, kill them, then make people pay large sums of gold if they wanted to be turned. You were lucky to find a spawn and get an NPC bite. It also helped when they added a crown option for bites, as that cut back on players charging for them.

As to the mourning dew, I looted one off a mushroom in cyrodiil the other day, so it does drop. Not sure if it's specific types of nodes, but I can confirm alchemy nodes drop it.

I was actually thinking that that might have been the case-- that once upon a time, the phase of the moons did matter, but they changed it for some reason. I wasn't around that far back, but the explanation why makes a lot of sense-- sadly.

Coincidentally, I had also been wondering whether Mourning Dew might be most likely to drop from Alchemy nodes-- or plants in general, which would include Clothier nodes for light armor-- although it's certainly possible for dew to form on any object.

Has anyone who actually has found this in Cyro noticed if it drops from certain nodes, or from all?

So far I've harvested more than a 1000 nodes in Cyro over the last two years or so and have never gotten any Mourning Dew. I did find the Colovian recipe three times though.
