U39 Patch Notes Review - When are we getting actual Class changes?

Hi,

So after reviewing the U39 patch notes, there’s not a whole lot there, which is disappointing. I’ll make some quick bullet points to go over what I think.

- The Grim Focus/ Bound Armor changes are great, best part of the patch IMO.
- The Destruction Staff changes are decent. Testing will have to be done to see if these are improvements overall for a lot of builds, but looking at the changes these look good to me.
- Considering they were the ‘target’ of this patch, the weapon skill line changes overall are very lackluster. Two hand, dual wield, and bow basically got nothing. The only meaningful changes were for Destro.
- Lol at the Packleader Werewolf nerf. One of the most underperforming specs in the game needed a nerf I guess?
- Still no communication on outstanding and long talked about class issues (mainly but not limited to sorcerer, Templar, and Necro), such as Templar jabs animation / nerf.
- Very few class changes AGAIN.

To end this post, I want to ask the Devs when you plan on making widespread meaningful changes to the class skills and passives. It’s been since update 35 since we had any lengthy class change notes in a patch, and obviously that patch wasn’t very well received which means there should have been a lot of work being put into fixing the issues and rebalancing / redesigning a lot of class stuff.

Here are some quotes from you ZOS over the last year and a half.

Update 39 Patch notes: “We have some targeted balance adjustments too, of course, but the list is quite short compared to other updates”

Update 38 patch notes: “We mainly keep large scale changes out of the chapter”

Update 37 patch notes: “this update is more targeted with its adjustments, rather than widespread”

Update 36 also brought very minimal class changes.

So I ask you ZOS, as someone who is just waiting to hear any news whatsoever of actual change to classes or combat in the game, when will there be widespread meaningful class changes? Do you realize the last time we got actual new combat skills added to the game that all classes can use was in Summerset? Do you know how long that has been? Honestly it’s a little crazy.

We were promised, promised, a serious reassessment of the state of viability of non-pet magicka focused sorcerer. This isn't it. This isn't even close to it.
We've given endless feedback on how badly the class spec is lacking and frankly, ZOS needs to keep their promise to address it.

I completely understand their hesitancy to not make sweeping changes given the overall extremely negative reaction to the massive changes in U35. That being said, it feels pretty bad that many of the current balances changes are from the, y'know, rather hated patch?

It's pretty fair not to introduce new abilities for existing classes as they have been and should be focused on Arcanist. There's some issues to fix with them but overall it was a much better release than Necro. If you want something new, Arc has 36 brand new skill morphs to try.

Edit for clarification; the class still needs a buff to no-pet Sorc, this was promised to us patches ago and we have yet to receive anything other than a Shield size increase.

So, it’s part of the plan that Templar isn’t the most desirable option for either DD, Healer or Tank continued into Update 39.

    Support Plar has received nothing.

The point I was making was that they had intent to buff the no-pets version of the class and still have yet to do so in a meaningful way.

It’s completely within context. It’s yet another patch that MagSorc got a pass.

Fair enough, I might've misunderstood your intent in posting the screenshot of their comment. Some people point to that absolutely trivial buff as evidence that "Sorc was looked at, stop complaining". When that comment was a serious slap in the face.

I come from a time when you could medium weave an Inferno Staff and Crushing Shock with Frags on Velocious Cursed players trying to avoid getting blown up by your minefield.

Sorc hasn’t been able to play house in almost a decade…

This class we have now is nothing in comparison to Y1, Y2, or Y3.

I specifically didn’t mention Arcanist because I have no interest in it, and it really has nothing to do with this topic in the sense that they have released four updates in a row giving excuses for not making many changes to the current classes. For this level of game, the number of changes to class combat and skills has been poor. Especially since update 35 was so negatively received, many believe the condition of the classes is worse now than a few years ago.
