You'll get 0 or 1 of the gold material. For jewelry, that's 0 or 1 grain, not plating.

If you have skill points into extraction, and have the meticulous disassembly CP star maxed out and slotted, you have a decent chance of getting 1 tempering alloy back.

You will never get more than 1, and even with those passives in place you may not get an upgrade mat at all.

You'll be lucky to get one plating back, and that's only if you maxed out your skill tree for decon extraction.

1 of everything is the most you can get from deconning, and by "everything" I mean the basic mat, the style mat, the trait mat, and the quality mat. So if you were to decon, say, a legendary nirnhoned CP160 cuirass crafted in the Imperial style, the most you would get back would be 1 Rubedite Ingot, 1 Nickel, 1 Potent Nirncrux, and 1 Tempering Alloy-- and each of those might not be recovered, so you might get 0 things back, or 1, or 2, or 3, or all 4.

This is something that really sucks in ESO. If you have a fully levelled, passived and CP allocated character they should be guaranteed at least 50% of the mats back. Not even 1 chromium grain from the 40 that went into a piece of gold jewelry is terrible.

    Not strictly true.

If something is crafted, you'll get back more of the actual material.

So in your example, you might get like 35 rubedite ingot back

But maximum of 1 for the rest, yes.

Are you sure about that? I don't think I've ever gotten back more than 1 of the basic mat when I've deconned something that I had crafted.

The only exception I'm aware of is Intricate gear, which can yield multiple pieces of the basic mat. For instance, last night I deconned an intricate Rubedite mace and got 3 Rubedite Ingots from it. I normally don't even pay attention to that when I'm deconning Intricate gear, but last night I made a point to observe carefully.

As for crafted gear, I decon crafted gear semi-regularly, sometimes to try to recover rare trait mats after transmuting the gear to a specific trait and other times because I had crafted the wrong style or level by mistake. On more than one occasion I've grumbled to myself about the basic mats I wasted since I only ever get back 1 basic mat.

Crafted items definitely return more to much more of the basic material than dropped items. It'll stand out if you decon cp160 crafted gear, as that takes over 100 of whatever mat in the first place.

I guess I haven't deconned much (if any) CP160 gear. CP150 gear, on the other hand, I've deconned every so often-- but I don't remember ever getting back more than 1 basic mat from it.

On a fully leveled crafter, 1, but it's like a 50/50 between 1 and 0. Lower if you're the one that upgraded/crafted it.

Just made and deconned ruby ash bows, cp150 and cp160. Wood required to craft, 12 and 120.
Wood returned on decon: 4 and 37.

Yeah, I made a CP150 Blacksmith item-- I forget what-- deconned it and got back 3 Rubedite Ingots. I guess I just never paid close enough attention when deconning crafted gear-- although deconning crafted gear isn't something I do regularly. Anyway, I've learned something I didn't know from this experience.
