Fan-Made Lore entry:
On the mail of the Mythos
By Charodey. Child of the Apocryphal Abyss

As I tasked myself with assisting the Prime Cataloger in cleaning up the rabble, the dreamcarvers, one of the watchlings that passed through to give more tomes for the prime cataloger to shelve had alerted me (albeit vaguely.) that the mythos had been attacked and that a vestige, fates chosen, had helped the Golden Eye banish vaermina from his domain, but at a grave cost small yet waiting to manifest.

The prime cataloger had spotted me so I kind of made my way out of the Libram Cathedral so as not to interfere with their work and figured I would find a way into the mythos, not to gather some of the most cherished secrets mind you as they are kept there for a reason, but to try and assist the confused daedra, seekers, etc and tidy up the mess created by the intruders serving peryite and the dreamcarvers.

During the cleanup, I came upon a tome that piqued my interest about a piece of heavy chest armor, said to be inbued with knowledge of its previous wearers and capable of bringing out the best in whoever would wear it, I made small notes before closing it and putting it on its respective shelf as some watchers came by and some seekers proceeded to assist in putting everything back in place, they knew I was not welcome here but still they let me help clean up, I suspect that it may be a form of payment for services rendered but I would digress there is more to it than meets the eye. (No pun intended.)

From what I noted, the mail in question was made of different fabrics and metals rarely seen anywhere else and so I would endeavour to create such a piece myself, I waited until I got back to nirn and started tracking down the materials needed, The Dragonscales were somewhat difficult to acquire but got some in the end thanks to the assistance I gave to the newly formed dragonguard.
I found a good scrap of cloth from what seemed to be a nightblades cloak (nearly lost my head but ultimately payed a good sum of gold to them to keep it.) getting some metal framework from a templar was a bit hard but thankfully my travels to leyawiin bore some fruit as one of the local smiths was willing to forge one such framework for me but required a piece of metal from a being of light, lucky for me as in southern elsweyr I had defeated a lightbringer during my exploration of the shrine of the reforged and the smith could work with it.
I had found a Rather unique silk that was being sold by one of the merchants at eyevea and proceeded to procure it, unfortunately, it had been drained of its magic, hence why it didn't cost as much, but I found ways to revive the sorcery imbued in it by using residual magic left behind on the training dummies when the adepts finished with them and went on break, such was the knowledge I bore as I had worked and took care of apocrypha with the seekers and the many servants of mora.
My travels had taken me to high isle as I sought out some unique wood grown from a small tree, not just any tree mind you as was told to me by some of the druids of the stonelore circle at stonelore grove, I gave them my word that I would grow a new one of its kind in place of the previous one as to me, Time was not really a factor as they didn't know I had existed in apocrypha since about halfway through the first era (I didn't get out of apocrypha very much at that time as I would still be the learning mind that I am to this day.) and after about several weeks with a pinch of nature magic I had learned a bit about from the druids, a new tree had grown in place of the one I had been granted and they had allowed me to keep the wood from its predecessor as promised.
I had paid a visit to the Unhallowed grave as word was getting around about how a pyre watch guard had helped travelers to get by, what with everything going on regarding a keep taken by imperials, and what I found there, besides some hidden knowledge about the previous greyhost army that was defeated, some boney remnants of the Nightmare Colossus Tzirzhalir were the perfect material needed for the mails ribcage after I had to shrink some of it to fit it. (Don't ask.)
As for the final piece, I used some old burnt remnants of recycled book materials from ciphers midden as well as using some spare notes I wrote on werewolves and vampires woven with apocryphal magics into the necessary stitching and sure enough...

The Mail of the Mythos was complete and as I began wearing it and testing its capabilities, my skills as an arcanist were astounding, my abilities could easily fell those who would do harm unto me, let alone to apocrypha, even my healing magics were improved, even my knowledge on the creatures of nirn became more pronounced. I did however, notice that there was a trade off that I may have missed as I wrote the note in moderate haste in the mythos, while my skills as an arcanist were unfettered, I noticed that my knowledge on proper weapon usage and a few other key points on the finer arts of combat were not as abundant as they should be, but then I remembered an old lesson from Hermaeus Mora, Knowledge for Knowledge is the price to pay, Thats when it hit me, the Mail of the Mythos doesn't just improve upon the individuals abilities, but in turn, demands knowledge from whomever would wear it, be it to do with the raging alliance war, service to the guilds and even when wielding a weapon, A good trade off to be sure for a learning and well travelled mind, but I dare not think of what it would do to those with willful ignorance, best not to think on that.

what I did find intriguing was despite how extraordinarily heavy it looked, the Mail of the Mythos was Deceptively light as a feather, as if the armor was light despite being clearly visually heavy, even the leather within the frameworks of the mail made the armor snug and arguably felt comfortable to wear, leading me to believe it to be a culmination of Light, Medium and Heavy armor all in one. Truly a unique piece I ever set upon since uncovering it, before Hermaeus Approached me asking me where I got my hands on it, ultimately though, I imparted the knowledge of my journey to its discovery, acquiring the materials, etc. the knowledge I had bore to the one who knows was quite insightful and strangely enough, Mora told me the price was acceptable before leaving me to my work and service to apocrypha, had my journey to create the Mail of the Mythos for myself been the price all along? Did the seekers in the Mythos knew of this beforehand? I would like to think the Golden eye very well may have already observed such events taking place and my journey, the clarity which proved my prince right as always.

I like the idea of boosting specific lines at the cost of others, but this is a bit much...
Get rid of the Slayer lines and we can talk about it.

I don't know enough about balance to comment on the item.

But I love the idea of lore entries for Mythics. And yours is so adventurous!

As much as I enjoy all the Antiquarian speculation and commentary, which is always interesting and insightful.
I would not mind super short stories such as this for Mythics and such.
Small isolated story posts of specific instances where Artifacts or Mythics were involved.

Much like the books in game, but maybe like blog-posts.

The slayer buffs are there for those who PvE and only affects monsters as noted by the buffs themselves.

On a personal note of thought, the true idea behind the mail of the mythos came to me after reflecting on how armor sets in the game have been responsible for carrying a lot of high end player dps on top of the abilities they use in their toolkit, and how those at the very top that push leaderboards (welcome to be wrong if anyone wishes to provide insight) seem to always incorporate a set that deals damage like pillar of nirn(also not asking for it to be nerfed, it is arguably a good set in the right context.) which carries a fair bit of their damage.

Give me a few times where the top position on a weekly trial leaderboard in the present year was ever done with a try-hard group that did not utilise such direct damaging sets like relequen, pillar, whorl, etc.
(When I say direct damaging sets in this context, I speak of sets that do damage for you when meeting the requirements.)

The Mail of the Mythos is tailored in such a way that just using your class abilities/ultimates (as well as your light/heavy attacks) can be just as rewarding as having a 5-piece armor set dealing damage for you. Soul magic was added in there as it only has one active ability and one ultimate (wishful thinking soul magic gets a touchup with more abilities, maybe even reworked from the ground up.) and having vampire and werewolf on top is because of how they work, werewolves in particular since its like operating a different bar. The way its effects work is so that it provides something significant for PvE without having too much of a significant impact on PvP, not to mention it doesn't buff set piece damage against players and it somewhat does against monsters via the slayer buffs.
Other than that, I also want to hear everyone elses thoughts on the OP (just in case I missed anything but also, the critique is important as a world without critique would just be sad.)

Giving an item both major and minor slayer is a lot, even with downsides. I think best bet would be either a staff, a bow, or a greatsword mythic that gets both. It makes you sacrifice your weapon slot, 2 of them, so you can't even do one-piece slimecraw or use a monster helm. You'd be stuck with a backbar ability change weapon and your two sets.
