[ANSWERED] Crafting training gear for alts - levels, 15, 25, etc ?

I'll be creating some crafting alts soon (up to now I've only ever had 1 character), and one thing that confuses me is that there seems to be nothing in the crafting station UIs for crafting gear at levels 15, 25, 35, and 45, i.e. there's a material type for levels 1-14, then another for levels 16-24, and so on. Can someone please explain to me what's going on here ?

Also, since it's been a few years since my only character was below level 50: what level gear can new characters use as they level up ? e.g. the crafting UIs let you pick a material for level 1-14, but can a level 1 character use level 14 gear ? I did do some reading on this, but I couldn't find a definite answer on character level vs maximum gear level they can use.

Material Tiers. You need the material for each Tier. You wont need nearly as much as CP160. Without the materials inventory the choice can't be made

    Purchase at Guild Traders.

As for the History, it had to do with how the original zones were leveled. Each zone had its own materials to farm

Characters can only use gear at or below their current level.

The "steps" for crafted gear are by 2's... they're all even (with the exception of level 1, which jumps right to level 4)
Tenacious Dreamer - Hurricane Herald - Godslayer - Dawnbringer - Gryphon Heart - Tick Tock Tormenter - Immortal Redeemer - Dro-m'Athra Destroyer
The Unchained - Oathsworn - Bedlam's Disciple - Temporal Tempest - Curator's Champion - Fist of Tava - Invader's Bane - Land, Air, and Sea Supremacy - Zero Regrets - Battlespire's Best - Bastion Breaker - Ardent Bibliophile - Subterranean Smasher - Bane of Thorns - True Genius - In Defiance of Death - No Rest for the Wicked - Nature's Wrath - Undying Endurance - Relentless Raider - Depths Defier - Apex Predator - Pure Lunacy - Mountain God - Leave No Bone Unbroken - CoS/RoM/BF/FH Challenger

I would do sets like this

    L4
    L10
    L20
    L30
    L40
Maybe L44 or 46. (Since the 40s level so slowly)

That is how i have my Training Sets done. I have them stored on a mule. It matches up with the Enchanting Tiers. While leveling, having a couple of 5 piece sets, and maybe a Two Piece will allow you to only need a set every 10 or so levels.

Sets that provide damage and resources are good generic choices

Yep. I made sets for all my alts to use and share while leveling. Saved a ton of mats. However you want to stratify will work. Being up to 8 to 10 levels over gear does not have a big detrimental effect on play. More levels and you get quite weak. This is all in how the scaling works.

Unless you are flush with Tempers Blue is fine up to say, 30ish, Purple After that. No need to Gold anything for Leveling.

I do mine at 4, 16, 26, and 36 then push the rest through to CP. Mainly because the lowest mat consumption is at the X6 levels, 11 Iron for level 14 vs 6 Steel for level 16. Enchants are also increments of 5, so that level 14 can only be enchanted up to level 10 glyph while the level 16 can be enchanted with a level 15 glyph. With the way the game scales down the higher your level goes up, there's less of a reduction in stats on the level 16 item with a level 15 glyph.

So if I understand this correctly, I'll need to craft gear at or below the alts' current levels, so I could e.g. craft level 14 gear then equip them when they reach level 14, then craft level 24 gear for when they reach level 24, and so on ?

Also from what you've said, a level 15 character can use gear in levels 1-14, and gear at levels 15, 25, etc. simply doesn't exist ?

[edit] Wait, now I understand ( finally! :) ). Gear for new chars is level 1, then it jumps to level 4, and increases by 2s thereafter. I wasn't paying attention to the crafting station UIs before, I hadn't noticed it changes by 2 each time you use the +/- button.

Sorry for being a bit dumb: as I mentioned, this is the first time I've had to craft gear for an alt char.

Thanks, yes, I noticed that myself, about the lower material usage at the lower end of each level range for a given material. That's a good option for me, because I've only been crafting 6 months, and my material stocks are still (relatively) limited.

Storing the gear can quickly become an issue if you make too many levels. By the time you have made light medium and heavy sets with Training trait at one level you have 15 pieces, which is half the capacity of a small storage chest. Since you wants to wear two sets, that’s filled it.

I normally don’t bother with the lower levels, as Armor of the Trainee drops often enough, and the levels build rapidly to start with. 26 is around where crafted, saved, sets come into play.

I don't plan to craft all the different level sets immediately. When I create my alt crafters, I'll just create the sets at each level as needed and transfer them to the alts. When I repeat this for the next level sets, I'll get my alts to deconstruct the old ones.

Good point. I make a mix of armor weights for each set. This way all armor skills level at roughly the same time. Leveling is not about optimal builds, you don't need that. You want efficient leveling.

I have training gear stowed away in my storage for all roles, made up of Hunding, Julianos, and Shackle Breaker as a second set, and weapons, at levels 4, 14, 24, 34 and 44. I know a lot of people don't like to have all that gear but every 10 levels helps ensure I still have decent survivability, damage, sustain etc.

Good point, I didn't consider that. When my upcoming new alts are done with each level of training gear, I'll stow the gear, not deconstruct it, in case I create any future alts.
