Greetings to you honored Azandar al-Cybiades,

I must assume Arcanists not only specialise in the obscure and esoteric of magics, but also... knowledge? Do you know of anyone who might have a postulation regarding what occurred during a certain nebulous period in Black Marsh, known as "Duskfall"? It has been drying my scales trying to find out even a scrap of evidence of what might have been the rupturing of an entire civilisation. It has certainly brought me to dark waters, but I desire to know!

May the rains be ever on your back,

    Greetings upon you Azandar al-Cybiades,

As a fellow mage I was wondering if you might be able to categorize your spells into the various schools of magic. Harming someone with a spell could easily be considered destruction magic however if you're harming them with tentacles that were pulled from oblivion, would it be considered conjuration? Any and all insights into this matter would be greatly appreciated by myself and my fellow colleagues at the mages guild.

    Hello, brother-in-tides Azandar al-Cybiades,

Pardon my rough Cyrodiilic. Hermaeus' pact has gifted me with a greater understanding of the language, but I find it more difficult to speak than my native tongue, Jel.

Given we seem to share a similar passion for the art of our magic, this question comes more from a theoretical standpoint. Our tome seems ephemeral, and it only flashes into existence for the moments we use the spells most attributed to our kind. Do you know if there would be a way to stabilize its temporary nature, in such a way that we can keep it on hand at all times, even in combat? I tire of carrying a staff and find the grimoire much more enjoyable. Needing to repeatedly summon it just to scribble my research notes into is a hassle!
I would love your input on this subject, as I've been experimenting with my own personal tome in this regard, but with no success

I would also like suggestions on how to explain our abilities to our allies! I've been given the--- how do you say it.. 'stinking eyeball?' by my friends more than once, after they see the tendrils lashing out..

    Kind regards,
    Sap-Scribe Teema-Haksu

    "Greetings, Azandar al-Cybiades,

While my specialty lies in unearthing the secrets of the past, as a member of the Mages Guild, knowledge of all kinds intrigues me. For arcanists such as yourself, where would you say your talents lie amongst the schools of magic created by the mages of Shad Astula and perpetuated by our esteemed Gabrielle Benele? Or, with your personal grimoires that may vary vastly, is such categorization impossible?

    Thank you for your time,

    Good tidings, master Azandar!
This khajiit is most particularly interested in what kinds of harmful effects possessing these quasi-Black Books might have for the caster! This one's associates in the Mages Guild have noted some of the harmful effects of a "standard" Black Book - dots in the whites of the eyes, split pupils, damaged intelligence, loss of willpower, among other such afflictions! Vashi would very much like to avoid these side effects if the book an Arcanist uses may contain them as well!

    Thank you for your consideration!

Only one question per person? You people are cruel. But here you go:

    To Arcanist Azandar al-Cybiades,

I have been looking into Ayleid memory crystals and Redguard Memory Stones with the assistance of some of the local mages, and glyphics were mentioned in passing. Can you elaborate on the relationship between the three, if any?

Ooh, this really inspired me to do a bit of RP writing for my upcoming character. I did include a little flavor before and after his question...

    Azandar,

Forgive me, I am still getting used to this. I found myself spirited away to this accursed realm by one of the Black Books found in a lost cave on Solstheim, and now I have been forced to learn the spells of the Arcanist to protect myself and survive while I scour these books for a way back home.

I was disturbed to find that these spells come naturally to me, but even so I can feel Herma-Mora’s tentacles in my mind every time I need to tap into his power. I have seen the husks of mortals wandering around the stacks and the horrifying creatures that lurk in the dark. Is this to be my fate? How do you protect yourself when you use these abilities? Is there a way to guard your mind against the Demon of Knowledge? Or is using the powers of the Arcanist more like standing at the edge of an inky abyss?

I wish you well, Azandar. May we eventually meet on more favorable grounds.

    Skjoldr the Curse-Bringer
    Shaman of the Skaal

P.S. in case your master is reading over your shoulder — Know that our alliance is temporary at best. I will work with you only as far as is needed to save the world and my people, and no further. I will never give up the secrets of the Skaal. It doesn’t matter what temptations you offer, what spells or powers you promise. You. Will. Not. Break. Me.

    Azandar al-Cybiades,
I hope you don't mind me asking one more question. In your opinion what has caused the recent surge of Arcanists among adventurers in the world?
    Thank you again,

    Dear Azandar al-Cybiades,

How fortuitous that I stumbled across this! Myself and my fellow kwama herders here in Deshaan have been debating for a few weeks on a most dire subject. How does one pronounce "Arcanist"? We have nearly come to blows debating this, so I pray that you can help.

Arcanist in PvE looks super cool and will be my new main.
But my question will you monitor their performance in PvP? So far with main burst dmg spell that is beam it looks like it can be easily interrupted and avoided. Will you monitor Arcanist performance in PvP also and try to change things?

    Hello loreman sir,

This one wonders. How does one find a specific book in the swaying stacks and towering shelves of Apocrypha? Are the stacks somehow organized even though they are part of the architecture? Is there a book of where all the books are located? Are there helpers?

    Respected Arcanist,

Our scholars have spent many long years attempting to make sense of the ever-shifting scripts of Apocrypha, but no meaningful translation has ever been achieved. What is this strange runic alphabet? Is it simply a language unknown to Tamrielic academia, or do you derive some measure of power from its application? I am hopeful that a runemaster such as yourself might shed some light on the matter.

To Azandar of the lush island of Cybiades,

There have been many sightings of strange creatures in the sea of churning black ooze throughout Apocrypha, described only as "tendrils" and "tentacles" with eyes, that attack those who swim too far into Mora's domain. They appear similar to the tendrils that are cast by Arcanist spells. What can you tell us of these mysterious creatures and their goals?

    Greetings Sir Arcanist Azandar al-Cybiades,

You study often in the harsh land of the Oblivion planes, especially Apocrypha, or so I am told. I wish to know something of you: if a poor lost soul happened to wander your way, asking for aid, would you assist them...or leave them to die?

    Sincerely,

    A Wanderer

This begs the question... does time pass the same in Apocrypha as it does on Nirn? If it is slower, then people have more time to ask questions... but they have to do it from Apocrypha. That could be a problem, I guess.

Oh no. I didn't foresee this... Guess I gotta go to Apocrypha to get answers about timing.

    Azandar al-Cybiades,

In a time when our world has been torn asunder by one Daedric Prince after another, permit me to ask this pertinent question of you, kind sir.

Why should the people of Nirn tolerate your kind and not simply destroy you? While many sorcerers traffic with Daedra, few are so overt about their dealings that they show off in such a way, wearing robes of many eyes and covering battlegrounds with their putrid ink.

    Greetings Azandar al-Cybiades,

I have never before encountered these fascinating "glyphics" until recently. I heard that they were manifestations of concepts, of a sort? I find them beyond interesting, and would very much like to hear what you know of them. What are they, really? How can one utilize a glyphic practically?

    Greetings Azandar al-Cybiades

what definition do you give for Arcanist

i am curious. And from french culture.

The general definition i could think of is *person having knowledge of a secret process* (be it for manufacturing process) or rather in our case Arcane, as someone having knowledge of profond secret or mysteries.
After searching a little, it could be also Arcanima as matter alteration. But i thought it could only alter the matter around the arcanist, not altering himself. (seems one of your spells is altering the arcanist himself)

So what was your idea of the arcanist for ESO ? Some of the spells for me are more like a book of horrors (speaking for dps for exemple)
