Hi there, hope you're having a good day. Just wanted to put this out there for new players to prevent them getting scammed out of their hard earned gold.
For context these people will go around buying, and selling things for absurd prices. At the time of this post the prices [PC/NA] of chromiums is ~500k, wax is ~43k, and vamp bites are usually free ect. I personally find this to be very predatory towards players who don't know better, and as a long time player I'm very disappointed that this is happening in the community.
Not only does this hurt new players who sell their valuable items for dirt cheap, but these items are being flipped on the market to endgame players who want to use them
at double and triple the price.
While some might not see this as a scam, I definitely do and I feel many other players will agree. However what these people are doing is not against TOS and they are allowed to do it.
My best advice to new players is avoid these scammers, and always check prices before selling your items. Utilize addons, and websites like Tamriel Trade Center to find prices. Thanks for enduring my rant. I would like to see addons like this implemented into base game, But until that happens have fun and stay safe.

I don't have the TTC and MM addons to link average prices to others when I see messages like that and show that the buyer is trying to rip new players off, but I do drop a line in chat to say that the prices are much lower than what's currently seen in traders, in case an unsuspecting player bites the bait. Some of these buy low-sell high resellers are just ludicrous and trying to take advantage when they offer prices like that, but like you said, as it's not against the tos, all that can be done is inform others in the chat and advice new players to check up on prices of mats either online, or in the central traders in order to have a better idea what their mats are worth, and not sell them to players trying to rip them off.

Edit to add: Also, from what I've seen, most people in zone will call out the buyers when they ask for really low prices to protect new players, but it depends on time of day/zone etc., so they might still get away with it.

yeah i regularly see these people get called out frequently, and sometimes some people even suggest reporting them for scamming (not often but i have seen people mention that when the prices are absurdly below market value)

200 thousand for a vampire bite? Excuse me while I go roll on the floor laughing my posterior off. I don't think I've seen something so outrageous even when bites were harder to come by, in the game's early years.

General rule of thumb is to be suspicious if the buyer is offering to buy "any amounts", so check TTC, MM or ATT! If you're not savvy with addons, TTC has a website, as OP mentioned. Even properly priced materials sell fairly quickly on traders, so don't fall for the "get rich quick" line.

Once in a while I'll see a furnishings crafter looking to buy Heartwood or other furnishings mats, usually at prices which most sellers consider to be "below top dollar" but which-- if you look on TTC-- are actually valid prices at the low end of the price range. Since I think most guild trader prices are obscenely inflated, I'll occasionally sell them a stack, but generally I'll chat with them a bit first to see whether they're furnishing crafters as I thought or just resellers looking to buy low so they can resell high and make a profit.

Players looking for tempering mats, on the other hand, are much more difficult to give the benefit of the doubt, especially if they're advertising for several different mats. You'll occasionally see a player looking to buy tempering mats for personal use, but they'll usually give a specific number of the particular mat that they're looking for, like "WTB 12 [Dreugh Wax]."

well its even more of a rip off at the equivalent of 3million gold via the crown store at the usual 1500crowns at 2k per crown

I always sell things for low prices to help new players. I don’t think I have sold any items for anymore than 4000 k gold. I’d rather help someone else get something for cheap than rip someone off.

That’s prob the reason why I’m always poor in game.
