External hard drive.

I installed this on an external hard drive (one of the heavy one terabyte drives)because I only had 17 gigs left on my internal after all the updates from this game. Anybody did this? How's the performance.

I've played the game from an external hard drive before and it worked perfectly fine. Naturally, load times and asset streaming will depend on the speed of your drive and what version of USB port you're using.

Seeing as your drive has enough space to store the game though, it sounds like at least have a half decent external drive so I don't imagine performance will be an issue.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Not doing it myself but with modern USB I say it would work decent enough.
I found that how much memory you have is also important as programs caches stuff in memory so less reason to read from disk again.

I think whether there's any difference in performance between an internal and an external hard drive mostly comes down to how they're connected (and whether it's an SSD or a HDD), with a decent USB connection it's unlikely you'll notice any difference.

I use the SanDisk Professional 1TB PRO-G40 SSD for audio loops and samples and believe it would deliver good performance for ESO.

On usb 3.0 and up should be ok. On hdd may have to lower view distance and if moving too fast entering in city may see dark figures before models load(if internal is SSD). On SSD no noticeable difference between external and internal.
