New to imperial city

I'm a newer player who recently purchased the imperial city to try it out. I tried doing the quests and I want to unlock the imperial race but I'm having difficulty playing.

My main character is level 45 and all others playing are above or at max level so I get one-shotted all the time. I want to enjoy and succeed at imperial city but pvp is challenging. I need some advice.

Anyone got any tips about imperial city? How do I succeed?
What can I do so a player can't instantly destroy me?
What do you suggest?

are you looking to start pvping there or just get the zone story quest done? i did the quest on my sorcerer main a few years ago and died a lot, hid a lot, drank many invisibility pots but it eventually got finished. maybe wait until you have some champion points to spend and some tankier cp 160 gear. also i think the no-cp campaign is quieter, i did the IC fishing achievements recently and saw less action/people during prime time there compared to the cp one.

Finish leveling. Once you hit level 50 you stop leveling per se and start gaining champion points instead. Once you hit Champion Point level 160 gear stops leveling. Meaning armor and weapons. Meaning you can now take the time to collect full sets of good gear because you won't ever out level it. Gear effectively reduces in quality, as you may have noticed, if it is a lower level than yourself, which is why being well geared at level 45 is a lot of constant work with very temporary reward.

160 probably sounds like a big number to you but it goes pretty quickly. Pop whatever experience scrolls you have and grind random dungeons (doing the Undaunted pledges as well since the XP scrolls boost all sources.) Imperial City and PvP in general are VERY slow ways to level, just so you know.

You'll be there in a day or two... Maybe less. Then take another day trying to find some good gear for yourself. A cheap set of gear sold in guild traders would be ideal for jewelry and weapons (I say this because crafting jewelry is expensive and you might not find help with this,) and for your body armor pieces try to find some nice person to craft you something.

After that? Make sure you're going to the No-CP Imperial City not the CP one. Honestly you'll still be at a disadvantage because you might not have any monster sets or mythical items, and also just because you're new to the game. But you should feel much better after you do this.

when I was starting out I needed to use a magicka focused nightblade to get through the quests...it was tough...

sometimes you'll catch it on the weekend where your alliance owns most of the district flags, that's a good time to do the different district quests...

you'll need some help with the temple daedric titan and guarding the 3 doors...

as mentioned above, the cp 160 gear will make a big difference...
