Opened 100 chests In Galen No Lead

I've been trying to get this lead: Druidic-music-box-crank-key. Many sites say it drops from treasure chests in Galen (not to be confused with treasure map chests) yet I haven't seen it. 2 people in zone said they've gotten it. However I've met 5 others whom have been doing the same as me grinding the lead. After hours circling the map trying to get the final lead I either must have incredibly bad rng, the lead is bugged or it actually doesn't drop there. So which is it?

I got my first one well into 50 odd chests, but not close to 100.
It definitely drops from normal chests in Galen, but the drop rate is on the very low side for sure.0 -

✭✭I got 4 of the 5 music box leads, the missing one being, naturally, the treasure map chest one. So it does drop, though I can't say how hard it was to obtain it since, like many other leads, I most likely got this one by accident.Imperial DK and Necro tank. PC/NA

It is treasure chests randomly placed around the map not the ones you need a treasure map for right?0 -

✭✭✭The lead dropped and it was a 'simple' chest. I can't say how many chests that I opened but I didn't know where the chests are located and I wandered around looking a few hours while picking up mats.Fan of playing magblade since 2015. (PC NA)

Remember Harpooners Wading Kilt's alchemy flower node in Shadowfen? Where players were arguing in zone chat and camping nodes and you had others zip around taking them from other's. People there for days waiting for the lead to drop. Pretty sure that was a social experiment by ZOS.1 -

✭✭I've opened only few world teasure chests in Galen - looks like only those with spawn missing from HarvestMap data are up when I pass by for some strange reason - but Ive got a lead for the crank key.
Edit, just took a short test run for Galen chests while waiting for daily reset and found plenty. I guess its just a matter of not doing it at time when everyone else is grinding for lead. I myself do not bother with grinds for new shinies and mythics before things have quieteted down and OPs have been nerfed. Any leads this far I've got have dropped from picking up things I pass by.
Edit2: I'm not sure where my Crank Key lead dropped. It may have dropped from High Isle chest and not from Galen. (I think I got some lead from Galen chest but dunno which cause not actively grinding.)Edited by rpa on 11 November 2022 06:140 -

I got that on my third or fourth alchemy mat, water hyacinth in Shadowfen. And yes I was actively looking for it. In fact most of the leads that I was actively looking for I got pretty quickly, except maybe for that one lead for Oaken Soul ring. But then again, I was looking for these leads just last Sept. Since I've stopped playing the game since Elsweyr.
I doubt that the lead is bugged. But one thing I have learned about ESO's RNG is to not make it a job. That is one of the reasons why I stopped playing ESO for a while. I will actively look for something, and if at some point I just feel stupid for doing it already, then I stop do something else that is worth my time. I still need one more lead for Harpoon's despite getting all the other leads pretty easily. Not even gonna worry about it for awhile unless there is a reason for me to do it. I got the lead for that from a Treasure chest on High Isle itself.

This. This has to be the worst thing about it. I can somehow live with it dropping rarely, but how that whole idea to put leads into chests and those blue glowing thief thingies brings out the worst in the player base is what's really infuriating for me.0 -

i would say almost every new lead (minus the treasure map and bugged ones) has dropped for me within <10 of whatever it was needed to get the lead lolplays PC/NA

I found mine on the third try the other night. Here are the location of three chests. There is a little cave with a hole in the stone that looks kind of like a window but it's just stone near the druid ruins on the first red circle on the left on this map. I opened it first and no lead. I then jumped over the cliff and down the beach along the ocean to the north and there is a little building that is kind of built into the cliff with two humanoid mobs outside(second red circle to the right), there is a chest there, no lead. Just east of that where the land just points into the ocean a little there is what looks like a camp with a tree and some humanoid mobs (last red circle on the right), that is where I got the lead.
