Should I be using an armor set with aoe damage as a DW/2H stamblade?

My current gear consists of a combination of Night Mother's Gaze, Briarheart, and Kra'gh, my main weapon is dual wield though i also use 2h. This setup is years old and while it does good single target damage i was wondering if I should be using something like Sellistrix or Venomous Smite. I mainly play this game solo and naturally as a single target dps I tend to get overwhelmed by large groups of enemies so I was thinking some aoe effects could help me out.

Try AoE abilities first! No need to change gear.

Twisting Path and Power Extraction are your class options.
Dual wield has Cloak and Whirlwind morphs for Aoe and TwoHanded Carve's morphs and Stampede. Reverse Slice is even a good AoE execute, now that it scales to 100% on the splash targets.

Even so, Sellistrix is really low damage. Venemous Smite is dependant on high weapon damage. So it can be okayish...

Power Extraction + Stampede is all you need.
Your AoE damage is going to be lower than some classes, so if you want to use Stormfist instead of Kra'gh (you're not a directional class you're an all around you class for AoE), but ultimately you don't need anything more than those 2 to get the job done.

As for replacing the sets with better sets, you're using decent beginner sets anyway so the only options would be to get better ones requiring more effort (Relequen and Nirn) but they really just do the same effect as your current sets, so you're fine wearing what you have.
