Which do you guys think is more problematic

One person being able to 1v9, never die and still get kills

or

People getting oneshot

Personally, I'd rather get oneshot than not be able to kill anyone. I do like being able to react to PvP situations, but I don't like when my damage is insignificant or easily undoable.

What about you guys? What entices you to get into PvP -- or for that matter, what puts you off of PvP?

if you end up part of a 1 v 9 - this game may not be for you :)

    just kidding, maybe...

the oneshot thing doesn't happen too often, usually only when i'm wearing a lot of light armor while checking the map...

neither is enjoyable - i'd say though the worst occurrence is being part of the X in a 1 v X...

Everyone can be killed with the right timing and abilities.. Just beating yur head on a wall doesnt cut it sometimes. Being one shot on the other hand theres no chance to defend yourself... what if 20 people stood in line with that build? Noone would ever make it anywhere!

There is no build you can run that’ll make you 9 times as strong as other players, using different builds, but having the same game skill.

Even if eso somehow put all pvpers in the same gear there would still be people that could 1v3 or 1v5. Or 1v9 perhaps, provided with poor enough opponents.

There’s nothing you can do to balance player skill.

Similarly there’s nothing you can do to balance 12 people coordinating comms buffs ultis and heals.

The game would be in a better place balance and performance wise if people would stop distracting the developers with these literally impossible requests.

So… for these reasons, I guess my answer to your question has to be it’s more problematic to have people be able to 1 shot people.

And that’s probably just an opinion but I think it’s somewhat factual that 1 shotting takes less skill. It’s normally done from stealth, or at least far away, and therefore is two seconds of preplanned and uninterrupted offense without the need for… anything else. Granted, some people just have very low health— haha one shotters one shotting one shotters— but anything beyond that really shouldn’t be possible.

The only people that I've run into that can survive 9 players, not just delay an inevitable death, are troll tanks, and you can just ignore them. They won't kill, you just let them enjoy their boring build.

I don't really have a big problem with one shot gank builds because if you can catch them slip they will die, they don't have any room for mistakes.

1vXers are my primary prey. Would be very unfortunate if zos removed them. It could probably be made more difficult though. Not exactly hard to line of sight for 1 second and press 1 heal to erase the damage of those 9 players. Leave them alone I say, its not problematic.

Now 1 shotting people doesn't really happen anyways. What actually is happening is people are getting 1 comboed. Mastery of combos should result in fast kills and as long as bombing exists so should the single target equivalent. It would be pretty dumb if "1 shotting" an entire group was ok, but killing 1 guy is forbidden. The way this game is balanced getting one comboed is not problematic. I think this level of damage is necessary to counter balance the levels of defense/healing the average 1vXer has.
I wrote a poem that I titled, "The ganker's delight."

As you lay upon the ground, cry not little pawn.
The pain will pass as quickly as my blade did take you,
but my delight will last and you will respawn.
My heart simply cannot contain my joy, when I ply my trade.

The fault lies with you, your skill was lacking.
Now your salt is mine forever, can't you hear the laughing?
Once you were so proud and now you are reduced to this.
    A miserable, loud deuced fool.

With every tear you drip, with every excuse you let slip.
All of your insecurities and worries bring a smile to my lip.
From your despair I have ripped endless glories,
but our affair is over now. Be afraid for I will return for more.

I have received many titles, to my allies I am The sniper Emperor and Grand champion hero of the Pact. However these titles mean little to me, it is the ones given to me by my victims that I prefer. To them I am "Xv1er", "trash", "no balls", "zerger", "noob", "cringe", "no skill", "camper", "100% new", "the reason this game is dying", "pathetic", "a sack of piece of [snip]", "mediocre", "absolute inbred", "beyond a virgin", "ganky dork", "fat smelly 40yr old virgin", "little girl", "daddy", "exploiting loser", and every [snipped] word known to man.

I don't think either is problematic personally. I always say that I like that there is a large diversity of fighters. You have healers, normal dps, bombers, ball groups, gankers, 1vxers and more. It makes for some really fun and unique cyro fun. This game would be really boring if we didn't have these people.

I find it more problematic if People are getting oneshoted - because for a simple reason: You can not have fun, if you are dead.

It People are getting oneshooted, then it is only fun for "one side" only, as there is no room for counter-play. And I am not talking about 20 - 30K health builds, but rather 40K+ health builds getting oneshoted (yes, it happens).

On the other hand, if we look at the other extreme - 1vX and that one person can stay alive for far too long - but in that case at least more people can have fun for longer, I guess.

There is also a very problematic option 3 - If the 1vX-ing person on top of being ultra tanky has good damage output and not only is being able to survive for far too long - but also is being able to kill ppl with it - even tankier ones.

One shotting is worse, and I mean a true one shot not some caluurions legacy combo that nightblades like to think is a great one shot.

I've seen some one shot ganker builds with vamp spammable or 1 shot heavy attack builds in open world and personally I think true one shots are the least fun of the aforementioned.

At least against someone who can 1v9 it's easy to win against them if you apply proper pressure when necessary. CC spamming, execute spamming, and applying debuffs is really oppressive at putting down 1 person.

However true 1 shot builds kind of have no counter play if they just 1 shot you before you even see them do so in the first place. But there's not a lot of true one shots out there to begin with

Like others have said, most of the players who can withstand the damage of several others can't kill anyone, other than very inexperienced/complacent players. It can be annoying when they're stalemating on resources, but eventually, they can be killed.

Personally I find one shot combat to be very off putting. Players enjoy combat for the complexity that can come from fighting other players. Engaging combat comes from players having access to the challenge of countering and out maneuvering eachother through a means of different skills, classes, and playstyles. 1 shot playstyles removes all of that. Counters are meaningless if you're dead instantly, and the number of playstyles decreases significantly if 1 shotting players is the most effective way to play.

This why organized group play is a problem at the moment, because groups have access to both extremes. They have easy access to out heal and mitigate any incoming damage, and then 1 shot everything in their path leaving others struggling to do anything to counter them.

Honestly I’d like to include things that aren’t a single shot into one-shots. Like when I was running my vampire stamsorc with overload light attacks+crystal+imbued weapon. No it isn’t a true one-shot but it lands in one global cool down and that’s the problem. The problem is for the receiver, who receives it all at once, not for the attacker who experienced the passage of 3 GCD. And again this is different from a dizzy swing dragon leap executioner “non one shot one shot” because one you can see happening and plausibly prevent and the other you can’t. It has as much or more to do with stealth mechanics as it does to do with overpowered skills. The biggest problem is not being able to see or hear.

Rez and start again, problem solved. No one needs to stay dead. Everyone dies, it happens.

True one shot builds from stealth are very problematic as they have zero counterplay. Luckily, on PC/NA Gray Host, I have only encountered 2 true oneshot heavy attack builds (although I expect more exist as a DK heavy attack build is easy to make).

1vX'ers can either be ignored, bashed, stunned,... May take some work and multiple players, but the point is there is "play" involved. Counter that with riding/running then just "dead" from a stealthed oneshot heavy attack build (34k-41k heavy attack damage).

I often think back to the day where I told my guildies "I like this game because even if you get attacked first, you can react and come up on top". That's a joke now hahahahaaaa mind you, I've always preferred BGs since I like smaller scale PVP and CP seemed to make everyone overpowered in Cyrodiil. BUT, now even in BGs one shot builds are a thing. Tied to proc sets that require a simple light attack or some other nonsense.... and it is saddening. I hate it. More than anything, maybe.
Then the tankiness of players now.... which I like to blame on Greymoor and refer to as the "Malacath/proc set meta fall out", is also out of hand. Often now, deathmatch BGs timeout rather than a team reach the maximum score simply because everyone has so much survivability. I miss the days when mag sorcs blew people up and dks just curb stomped their enemies.
....either way, it is a loss for us all.
