Whats the point of crafting gear?

shiphappens
I have been slowly, but surely, leveling up my clothing. It's only level 21, and I am 25, but I never create my own gear. I always find better stuff out in the world. So far, clothing is the most time consuming and most useless craft I have, alchy and provisioning being the other two. Yes, I know the other two are easier, but the "rate of return" is literally nothing for clothing.

So, what's the point of crafting gear when there are significantly better items to be found by just PvEing? Is there some super duper craftable gear in veteran content?

On the contrary I find it extremley useful. My gear breaks constantly and repairs are insane. I craft new gear and go happily on my way.

Its cheaper to craft new gear after 4 or 5 death then to repair. "IF" you researched enough you can craft sets at those Crafting set station thingys.

it is cheaper to craft your own and can make outfits for your other alts and fellow guild members , also can make certain armours

Crafted gear is superior to dropped gear of the same level. Also, with crafting you can both make specific sets you like and have items with bonuses you have reserached, which are very useful. My Templar runs in fully crafted armor with 2 different sets, nicely matched, all blue and with the traits I wanted and nice enchants I've made.
It helps a lot, the dropped hodgepodge of randomness doesn't even come near.

Apart from those listed above crafting and researching traits also allows you to craft unique sets with unique bonuses.

Plus it gives you something to do, look for.

Well then! Apparently, I am missing something here, because right now it seems better to find gear that is already enchanted, has a trait, and is green or blue then crafting same items by myself. Yes, I do "fill" my broken gear with plain old gear, but it is only a short placeholder until I get a drop/trait, any drop/trait, with better stats (light, medium, heavy). As a sorc, I easily overcharges on magika, so it doesnt matter as much what gear I wear.

How is crafted gear superior to dropped gear? Simply by armor stats?

Are you guys talking end game content?

my own crafted gear is consistently better than anything I get from drops and it has been basicly since the start of the game

do you use tannins to improve your gear?

And particularly at higher levels when the fighting gets real tough you can't rely on finding new gear that you need to stay alive with.

The other thing about crafted gear is I can make sure as long as I know the trait I have the armour piece I want.

With enchantment I don't have to accept that a piece I found is max magika, I can make it max health/stamina instead.

Later on game, when takes a whole area or more to advance a VR level crafting gets some use since the gear you craft its going to last you for some time.

But i do agree itemization need some more juice:

    - Some sets are not working properly and/or need balancing.
    - Theres no real uniques/legendarys drops with enough diferentiation from crafted gear (like OMG i just found X legendary, gonna sell it/use it).
