I do not like the empowered change but I think to do what they want to do and make it more accessible, along with going with the idea of "play the way you want," Empower goes back to the way it is on live but now it scales. 20% for a light attack, scales up to 40% for a fully heavy attack, with medium weaving being in the middle. That way, takes a bit of the pressure off "got to learn to weave", opens the door to which every way is good for the player, and leans more into you having a good rotation. Empowered still does what it does on live, in terms of skills, but opens the door for different playstyle/waves. Yea, medium weaving would be better than light, but if you cant master it, but can master one of the other two, then that would work. Again, less pressure and open the doors to different playstyles and builds.

Veteran players have been alienated and disengaged from Overland since One Tamriel, due to the lack of difficulty, and pushed into dungeons and trials; the minority of content in the Elder Scrolls Online. We can't take the repetition anymore, fix Overland engagement for Vet players. I don't even care if it's not combat related anymore, just make Overland engaging again.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. Make a self debuff mythic. Literally anything at this point.1 -

The Solar Barrage morph removes the cast time and becomes a weak-ish DoT centered on player. So you could keep Empower up with that pretty easy. But I am not sure how well Templar syncs with channeled resto/shock heavy attacks. Those are what are typically used as entry-level veteran content builds in PvE. Fire heavy was popular in PvP for burst potential, but heavy attacks with cast times (Bow/2H/DW/Fire) are clunky in extended PvE boss fights and not all that popular. Jabs was the entry-level veteran content build for Templar PvE, not heavy attacks. So Templar will have good access to Empower, but Templar has never been a popular choice for heavy attack builds in PvE.1 -

Here's some easy math; Let's say as an example just to get the percentages. On live, your damage with Light Attacks is 100. It's being reduced by 26% from the nerf, making it 74. If you add 40% to 74, you get 103, meaning your light attacks with empower after the nerf, if empower gives 40%, is only 3% higher than light attacks without empower on live. This deals with percentages, so regardless of what your light attack damage actually is, the math will scale to it. It's still a 26% nerf regardless of your damage increases, keeping in mind they're also planning on removing the extra light and heavy attack damage from the maelstrom staff; I don't think this is overpowered in any way to just give it 40% to LA.Edited by merpins on 3 August 2022 20:550 -

Seriously this. I think he just saw 4 yellow icons and didn't bother to actually look further.
But either way you don't go to a templar for a heavy attack build, so having access to it off 2 skills - one being an ult most people wouldn't use even in PvE content because you'd be running the other morph or literally any other damage ulti, kind of absolutely means nothing.
Same with complaining that sorcs and wardens don't have it. What about all the other buffs they have in their kit that templars don't?2 -

✭✭✭✭i really like the change to empower. I think it achieves all the goals they set out to achieve with this update far better than anything else they have done.
it lowers the ceiling. top groups just lost a buff that other groups don't have good uptime if they have it at all.
it raises the floor. heavy attack builds, particularly lightning staff heavy attack builds, have been very popular for a very long time with the more casual eso players. if they can get this buff it will lift their dps by a LOT.
obviously access and skills need to be adjusted, but even if they don't this update i'm still fine with it.
the biggest issue is they need to make it for fully charged heavy attacks only to get rid of the medium attack weave problem.5 -

✭I think they should go with +20% for light medium and heavy attacks for empower with a longer duration , boost the base line for heavy attacks so that damage is around what it is now, cap the heavy attack damage in PvP instead of having the sets/buffs not work in pvp and boost the base for light attacks while reducing the scaling further.
Having it just be +80% makes it either nearly mandatory for your build or useless which can have an extreme impact on many of the items that currently carry it. You also can hit awkward circumstances where a player might be doing Heavy Attacks much of the time but not realize Empower exists and thus be missing out on a crazy amount of damage.

yes I think that's what they are wanting to do too, less calculation but the suggestion I make would make so much more sense in achieving what they want, accessibility and play the way you want, that those calculation would be worth it.

1- I think that empower should make Light Attacks return a little bit of stamina or magicka, whichever is higher, or a little bit of both. If you want a value, like 100 of a single stat or 50 of both.
2 - 25% higher status effect chance on your next skill. Perhaps a 2 second buff duration for it.
I think they both could function, they did make a status effect for every type of damage except oblivion so its rather functional in my opinion.
I don´t think that every buff needs to be PvE and PvP, how many people use snare and immobilization immunity in PvE regularly?0 -

DK used to be the premiere class for heavy attack builds since molten weapons granted 50% heavy attack damage, resulting in a 90% increase with empower. 80% just means every class gets it, so every class is just as viable (with a small nerf) as DK. Then for Light Attacks, think of it like this; if light attacks go live with a 26% reduction in damage, then that means we do 74% the damage we did before. 74% of 100 is 74. What is 40% of 74? 29.6. Let's say we round down, that means 103. That's a 3% increase in damage as compared to what we deal on live with no buffs at all, with empower in this thought experiment, we deal 140 on live. I don't think that's unreasonable, since it's still a big 'ol nerf to light attacks, but also makes them the more optimal choice and doesn't force people to learn medium attack weaving.0 -

The new buff will only buffs heavy pve attacks.
