I just came across this tutorial video about the new card game from ZOS - maybe some of you might have missed it as well, even it has been announced in the launcher (but I know some of you are starting up ESO without the use of the launcher).

So far I never really got how that game is played, but I found this video quite helpful. To me it looks like a really interesting game, confusing at first, but it seems to have quite a bit of tactical elements to it. This is not just a game quickly done, I think that ZOS put a lot of thought into designing it in a way, which can be enjoyable and as well competitive. And it is unlike any such card game I have seen before - so we get something truly unique with it.

I have still a bunch of questions about what the icons on those cards mean and so and what it means to have the favor of a patron and so on, but maybe some of you might have an easy way to explain it, and I would appreciate, if you would help me out understanding this game. I am certain, some of you have played it on the PTS and know how to play it. Is there some advice how to approach the game as a beginner for example.

Great video. Silly addition to the game, though.

It's way too complex for a fun 'mental break' mini game....and it's immeasurably far from what the dev team should actually be working on.

I wasn't looking forward to it, but I tried it on the PTS and now I think it's wonderful :)
GM - Ghost Sea Trading Co - NA PC

Epona was a Romano-Celtic goddess dating back to around 1800 to 2000 years before computer games were invented.

It is meant as a competitive game and as such it has to offer tactical elements - so it is not wrong, that it is not too simple. Well, there are games which look very simple, but are just not - think of GO for example. It is not even a partially solvable game, unlike chess, which is.

    Orly? What changed your mind?

I tried it a few weeks back and it was worse than I imagined...

Then I realised the settings weren't carried through on PTS so while being on mute (semi-usual play style for me for reasons) the subtitles weren't on.

Then I played again with subtitles and I was still irrevocably disappointed with how they could devise a game that could at once be both overly complex and entirely boring.

How hard or easy was it for you to get into it?- Is the in-game tutorial a good one?

    Greetings,

This thread has been moved to the Tales Of Tribute section, as it is better suited there.

    Thanks

Ah, thanks, I did not even see that there is a section like that.

It takes about 3-4 games for everything to click into place. The in-game tutorial just touches on the basics, so the best way to learn is to then play a few novice NPCs, and to take your time about it.

That is what I was going to do - the combo-thing is not quite clear to me - is that playing cards of the same patron in an uninterrupted sequence?

This is a good video, but still lacks a deep strategy explanation. I still don't get it when or why chose a card, and how mount a hand. And idk why we can't create our own hand (the game do it for us) using the draw we got. The game seems interesting but the learning curve is too confuse.

Yeah it is at first - and strategy is for certain hard to master - but keep playing, you will grasp it.
I gave a few hints in this thread
