Detonating Siphon Positioning

According to the tool tip, the MOB needs to be between me and the origin of the Detonating Siphon beam that follows me before it does damage.

Is that really true? What If I have the beam behind me and I'm right in the face of the MOB. Would it work then? Yes, I know what the tool tip says but sometimes I think it's still working even though the MOB is NOT between me and the beam but just close to me.

Anyone find this to be true or am I having a observational error brain-fart?

Thanks!

It has a radius of 5m on the ground at the source, in addition to the tether from you. Generally the ground effect is the useful part since it will be centered on the corpse of your last blastbones, and therefore close to the enemy.

Thanks. I know the 5m radius works but you can also extend the tether. Just not sure if you can face the mob or if you have to put the mob between the ground effect and you.

The beam has to go through the target for you to get the damage and/or regen from the siphon.
