Best way to get low level Mats?

Is there a best Under 10 Class/Race that won't get killed? Should I just use a high-level toon and settle for 50/50?

All characters are "battle leveled" to the equivalent of CP 160. Make a set of gear equal to the level of the character that's farming and they'll be perfectly fine killing anything in the overland.

(I'd avoid it as much as possible, since killing will level you up)

You also get low level materials through the daily writs. At max level the normal reward (if you don't get a survey) is to get 15 max level mats and 10 at a random lower level.

For refined materials you’re better off purchasing imo. You can make much better use of your time farming stuff to sell for gold, which you can then use to get those refined mats.

If wanting a large amount of rarer low/mid-level rawmats, your best bet is to farm. Don’t even bother though unless you have enough CPs for your important passives. Also surveys are useful, 50/50 is still good.

If you farm on a lowbie char, I’d recommend Mag NB Vampire so you can stealth past enemies at a fast speed.

This. If you have the craft bag and you do writs, you automatically have everything in stock after a while. You do not need a lot of materials to craft low level gear, unlike CP160.

If you want unrefined materials (not sure why you would) you can remove your level on the crafting trade, you want the material from. Gathering materials in overland is 50% your character level and 50% your crafting skill level. Otherwise, doing daily crafting writs on durable trades returns a random small amount of refined material of lower level. Removing the skill level also works on surveys.

Unrefined mats can be refined for tempers that can be used or sold.

Why low level mats? Well if you want do a bunch of writs without leveling crafting and you will get surveys. Any other mat farming imo isn’t worth the time unless maybe double node events.
