Another example of load-related dysfunction.
Trying to do the daily endeavor on 2022/05/03, a kill-count of "barbaric foes".
This delve in Alik'r is (perhaps unfortunately) one of the places to find goblins (an instance of "barbaric foe"), and is recommended online so naturally appears in search results.
I tried to enter with a character (repeatedly), but the game spins indefinitely (or at least for more that ~3 minutes), for all practical purposes hanging. I assume this is because the only "instance" of this particular bit of content on the server is full, no coherent recovery/retry mechanisms have ever been implemented. and no "generate a new instance" scaling mechanism has ever been implemented... or at least any such mechanisms do not operate on a time scale that is useful to a human sitting at a screen wondering what to do.
I was not using VPN or anything, was not experiencing uncommon latency, the problem was repeatable, and the game seemed completely functional in every other respect, so please don't foist a bunch of inutile "troubleshooting" recommendations off on me. Clearly a case of "Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this! Doctor: then don't do it." (Henny Youngman, classic).
Anyway, I had to kill the client process in order to regain access to the game (simply closing the window was sufficient, the client was not so far gone that I had to use the task manager). I went after Lamia (another instance of "barbaric foe") in one of the various open-world locations where they occur. Beyond that, from now on, it seems I must scrupulously avoid delves (and other "public" instances) when pursuing endeavors (or anything else that might induce "contention"), and confine any activity that could be "contended" to open world, since my participation could render the game dysfunctional (at least for me).
Breakage of this kind seems pretty senseless to me. Having the game hang like this, apparently unrecoverably, in some weird form of "denial of service" event, and purely as a consequence of normal use (not as a function of some sort of crazy, super-ambitious "world event" that every player on a realm wants to access, and must access together in the same place and at the same time... in other games stuff like that has disabled entire open world zones, crashed entire server farms, etc, in my experience), is not something I would have expected. Disappointing.
Your mileage may vary.
