Perhaps the banjo kid from the movie, Deliverance?

As far as I'm concerned, it is now.

Taking me back to my childhood. Must have gone on that ride 15 times over the span of a decade.

A guy on his porch picking at a banjo is pretty classic imagery for swaps, bayous, etc. I doubt it's a reference to that specific ride, and more likely just both of them referencing the same kind of Americana imagery. Although if they were trying to reference a particular piece of media, I'd imagine both were referencing Deliverance, as another user mentioned.

edit: actually I think the ride predates the movie.

Eh, I don't know. We've done that ride off and on forever - seriously, we took my grandmother, my mother, our daughter, and her friends there for - hmmm - probably 3 decades all told. And every one of us loved it unreservedly (along with the entire Disney experience, which I began back in the late 50s when we lived not that far from Disneyland).

You know the funniest thing about that ride? When the Pirates of the Caribbean movie debuted, daughter (then married, with 2 kids and living in Germany - SIL was an AF lifer) kept saying how much fun the movie was, and did we like it? Finally I said of course we liked it because it was a reprise of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland.

She was.... speechless. It never occurred to her that a ride she'd been on many times could have spawned a movie - plus sequels....
