My Issues with ESO...

So I played through the beta and I always submitted detailed feedback regarding my experiences and bugs I found in the game. When the Beta Weekends came, I always got as many of my friends to come play with me I could, however I am now a little dejected with ESO.

There are a few problems I have when it comes to things that I was hoping would change prior to launch and haven't. Let me give some examples. I personally think that a balance between "instances" and open world content needs to be met. New players first joining the game are like a wave that gathers momentum and sweeps through content. Whether you are part of the wave, or simply follow in its wake, you end up missing content without "instanced" parts. Parts of the game that are highlighted and made for you and maybe some of your friends. When I have a quest to kill "x" and I show up with the "wave" or on the tail end of the "wave" and get credit for an encounter I did not participate in, it is a huge let down. The culmination of hours of work questing to get to the end only to watch someone else kill it. That is frustrating and leaves you completely unsatisfied.

When you finally do complete the "encounter" and loot only a potato for your efforts is also let down. I understand since the content is open you do not want people farming a boss simply to get loot from it, but I find myself dejected that when I finally kill something that takes effort to have it give me something trivial, it just feels pointless.

And where is the game balance? Most of the content is trivial. The encounters pointless. Then you come across something that is your level in a cellar somewhere and it smokes you like you are trivial. I get that some of that comes down to individual player skill, but to wail on something and do hardly any damage gives you no indication if you are doing something wrong or not. At equal levels the encounters should be "closer" to one another. I might die, it might die, but it should not be feast of famine. All or nothing. So you go out, get a couple more levels and come back and smoke it and move on. That is unbalanced. I don't mind dying to something of a similar level, but it should be a contest at the very least.

In the world, there needs to be more vendors to sell stuff. It is frustrating to constantly have to run to a way point, port to one in town, sell, port back and continue on. Every now and then when entering a "new" camp, it might be nice to have a vendor to sell stuff and continue on instead of constantly running back to down and sell.

Uhg.. Please let us hot key potions. The "Q" Quick select sucks and is mainly for console users. Let us pc users hot key them. Give us more slots aside from 5. Please fix the looking for group/dungeon finder interface. Amazing content and game but there should be no harm in giving us an auction house. I like seeing what is out in the world. I like being able to "buy" materials for my crafting. I know you feel an AH is a stop gap for exploration, but I think it is really frustrating to spend a lot of time and still not find something you are looking for.

Anyways, I am sure I will be told to go "back to WoW" or something, but these are issues I have wrote about during beta and still persist that I think impact more players than simply me.

    I feel your pain on getting stomped by what I feel should be a quick encounter. At first it was my play style, not blocking or dodging, then I realized it was my gear. Trying to kill a lvl 8 mini boss as a lvl 7 in lvl 3 armor and weapons didn't help me either. I upgraded and was able to get past that content. I think some mobs are meant for groups for sure though.

    I do understand your gripes about loot. There seems to be some bigger mobs that give you nothing, but since playing, I've had no shortage of loot. It seems like some bosses give you nothing but then when you hand in the quest you get a piece of gear, xp and gold. That's not a terrible idea but it can make killing something big seem useless.
    The quest completion via riding the wave, as you called it is a double edge sword. Yes it can feel rewarding to down something at the end of a quest chain but at the same time if it wasn't like that, you'd end up waiting around for the next boss to spawn. It's a way to keep things flowing for the masses but it is a let down when you show up late for the party. I feel some of the side quests are trivial but the main quest chains, to me, seem to have some interesting story to them.

    I would like to see an auction house too, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I think you can sell stuff to your guild though. I'd say a decent work around is to join a big trading guild and vend your stuff there.

    I would love to have more hot keys. I have a razor naga mouse and would love to hot key all 12 buttons to do something.Id also love to be able to move by clicking both my mouse buttons like in other mmos. I've never been much of a fan of using the keyboard to move.

    I personally think the game is fun for me. It's not for everyone though. I won't tell you to go back to wow but I won't tell you toil away in a game you don't like even if you are a fan of the series. If you don't like it, don't play. I was a huge fan of diablo and couldn't wait for D3 to come out. Then it did and I didn't like it so I stopped playing. If the bugs are a deal breaker, maybe hang around a while for them to be ironed out. I think a lot of people will agree that some of this stuff should have been fixed well before now but this is a new mmo and they all have growing pains. But this has by far been the best launch I've played. If these guys can iron out some more bugs, learn to communicate down time and provide good content on a regular basis, it could be a great game for a long time. Hang around or don't, there are too many games to play to waste time on one you don't. I'm also told there is an outside world with stuff to do but that seems like a whole thing and I'm not into it right now.

    I agree with you largely and it makes me wonder again why exactly don't we have an auction house? I've heard speculation and rumor that it has something to do with gold farming but frankly I don't see how this system actually stops it or even slows it down.

    The guild store is great and all and it's an excellent guild resource but I think a full auction system is needed, like the poster above it's no deal breaker for me but I think it offers more benefits having it than not.

    I understand the goal Zenimax wanted when starting out, to make you feel like you're playing a typical Elder Scrolls game, with minimized HUD and so on but I have to say hot keys and full action bars are a must. As well they offer a decently robust crafting system, so robust I almost wish we had separate inventory or bags for crafting materials and the like.

    I'm loving this. Having played MMO's for years before WoW ever hit the scene, many of these elements are common. I love the feel of public dungeons and open-world boss battles. These types of content are from the Golden Age of MMO's, and I love it.

    All that said, they could surely add some more instanced content to feed into the 'give me now' era of mass-market gaming. Some people don't like knowing others are in the game with them, or as this Op claims, some just don't like feeling like they aren't special.

    As far as loot is concerned? I want no change. I literally hate games that use gear as the only driving force for content. I'm perfectly contented that ESO is not like that.

    Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

    He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

    This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.
