The games reason (story wise) for allowing you to explore enemy territory post lvl 50?

Have asked this question in zone chat a few times and no one knows. Does the main quest/story give you any explanation for why you can explore other provinces? Are the quests in these zones tweaked so you don't wind up helping Ebonheart Pact fight off the Daggerfall invasion of Stonefalls if you are from the Daggerfall Covenant?

I ask because I have a hard time buying the devs would dump you into these other zones and *** on the story.

Cadwell tells you himself that it's to show what would have happened if you had picked a different alliance.

I recall Cadwell (or maybe Meridia) saying that the war for the throne was not the major concern and that it was more daedra (I think) and that for you to best defend Tamriel you need to understand all of it, which involves going to the other alliances under the effect of a spell so no one recognises you.

    Ok. That makes more sense.

You didn't really join an alliance. If you recall the start of the game, what happened was that your character just happened to wash up on the shores of an alliance and see innocent people in each case in collossal danger and decided to help.

Then what happens is that you find out the one of the other alliances is either behind or contributing to said danger and thus decided to help the alliance you were in.

It was Meridia who, after defeating Molag Bal, said she wanted you to experience the life of other alliances as if you had washed up on their shores instead of yours. The spell she would cast on you would hide your appearance so nobody would recognize you. The reasoning was pretty weak.

It would have been better if she explained that greater things were to come and that she needed you to see all perspectives because of Molag Bal's corruption and distortion of the truth, which pitted the alliances against each other instead of unifying against him.

So the Alliance war is a pointless Molag Bal's machination? Guess I won't be engaging myself in the main quest too much then, Alliance PvP is the best part of the game for me and spoiling it for "story" reasons leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Screw you blind man, go and fix yourself the mess you've created!

So far that is the most logical thing I've read. If you didn't really join an alliance then it's not that big a deal to help another one, making your char a Sell Sword more or less. Guess I'll have to pay more attention to the opening sequence.

Only strange then that you have to pay the developers an extra 20 bucks for the "honor" of playing any race in any alliance since well, you know, you're not actually in any alliance.

But back to topic: I personally feet that the story-explanation for why you have to grind through all the other factions content feels extremely far fetched and weak... at least it robbed me of any motivation to ever roll a new character. I'll simply grind (and it feels like a grind) through the game with this one and then quit - not the best strategy to keep people subbed if you ask me... but hell... what do I know.

Playing any race in any alliance is a pre-order perk, you didn;t have to pay more for it.

I agree with the "motivations" though, I'm already preparing to grind myself through VR...if the game survives the first months that is.

Don't forget, both Meridia and Molag Bal both essentially tell you that you the main character are a part of the game now. As such, Molag Bal now counts you as an enemy and Meridia an ally. Meridia is trying to prepare you for future encounters with other Daedric Princes by giving you a more comprehensive view of the Alliance War than other mortals get.

Personally i think this is a perfect way to setup additional expansions of the ongoing story of the main character. There are like what 17 Daedric Princes? In TESO thus far, we have only really had dealings with 3. That leaves 14 more to draw adventures from. And i can't believe ZOS will not have some interaction with the Aedra as well.
